Fall Out Boy performed two songs at last night's April 12 MTV Movie Awards, joining forces with Fetty Wap for one tune. The band ran through "Centuries" from American Beauty/American Psycho before the rapper came out for his tune "Trap Queen." It was a surprisingly decent collaboration.
The group sounded fine on its newest hit single, but they helped give Wap's tune a glossy, pop makeover. The rapper rose up from the floor and destroyed the song, with Patrick Stump backing on vocals and Pete Wentz following him around the stage. Check out the performance over at MTV.
"Trap Queen" has enjoyed plenty of success on the charts, having reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs lists. The New Jersey hip-hop artist has released two mixtapes so far, last year's Up Next and, more recently, Zoo Style.
Wap talked about his hit song last month with Billboard.
"I was the one that knew it was going to be a hit," he said. "I told everybody even before I recorded it in the studio that I knew it was going to be a hit. Just the vibe I got from the beat, it was just different."
The rapper revealed that he has been hitting the studio regularly, so expect some new music in the near future.
Fall Out Boy released their sixth album earlier this year. It went straight to No. 1 with the help of "Centuries" and "Uma Thurman." The effort received mixed reviews.
"I will say this album was ambitious. The band pulled from a bunch of different places to put this thing together. Although I'm not really surprised by anything on the album, they did come up with some interesting arrangements that weren't predictable and chose some interesting samples," Music Times wrote about the album.
