Madonna reportedly joining Miley Cyrus for MTV Unplugged session

Miley Cyrus is all set to strip her music to its core elements for her MTV Unplugged session, set to tape tonight (Jan. 28) and air tomorrow (Jan. 29), and now it seems like 2014's controversial pop star will be joined by the '80s most controversial songstress: Madonna. According to E! Online, the "Material Girl" will reportedly be joining Cyrus on stage.

The two have reportedly been working together in Hollywood, rehearsing a collaboration for the stripped down live show. The song that Cyrus and Madonna will be performing has yet to be revealed, so it could be a reinvention of something from either of their extensive musical catalogues.

MTV first announced that Cyrus would be taking on MTV Unplugged last week. Though the pairing may seem like an odd combination for the antics-ridden "Adore You" singer, Cyrus has been known to give acoustic spins on her music quite frequently.

Take, for instance, her Saturday Night Live hosting gig in October, where she performed an acoustic take on "We Can't Stop" or her guitar-led cover of Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness." Cyrus is also reportedly prepping an acoustic set as a part of her Bangerz Tour live act.

Cyrus' Unplugged show will have the 21-year-old following in the footsteps of some legendary musical acts. Nirvana, Adele, Mariah Carey and Katy Perry (and way, way more) have all recorded Unplugged sets.

Miley Cyrus Unplugged will air on MTV Wednesday night (Jan. 29) at 9 p.m. EST.
