July 2015 came and went, and Frank Ocean's new album and magazine Boys Don't Cry still have not seen the light of day. But that doesn't mean that the "Thinking About You" singer and his crew weren't about to have fun with his fans. On Saturday (Aug. 1), Ocean's brother tricked fans by announcing that the follow-up to the Grammy winning channel ORANGE had finally arrived...
Only to "Rick Roll" fans.
Ryan Breaux re-posted Ocean's photo with a fat stack of Boys Don't Cry magazines, saying that an iTunes link to the new LP is in his Instagram bio. However, when fans followed the iTunes link, they weren't sent to sizzling new R&B tunes from Ocean - instead, they were lining up to buy a copy of Rick Astley's 1980s hit "Never Gonna Give You Up."
Classic Internet.
Beyond Breaux's pranking, there has been no further word on when Ocean's new album will be released. In April, the former Odd Future associate posted that he has "two versions" of a new album and magazine on his Tumblr blog. The tags he used for the record seemed to imply that the album would be released in July 2015, a fact that Billboard later confirmed.
However, the new record has yet to be released and Ocean has yet to give a reason why or new arrival date, so fans are still on the edge of their seats months later.
Boys Don't Cry is Ocean's third studio album. It follows the release of his July 2012 record channel ORANGE.
