Back in May, fans had their hopes shot down when actress Lauren London said that ATL 2 was not a definite project. Despite confirmation from T.I., many believed the film would never come to fruition until Evan Ross shared a photo of the cast on his Instagram account. Following excitement and more speculation from those who saw the photo, Ross later revealed that they aren't actually working on the movie.
Although London and Tip offered up opposing views on whether or not shooting had actually begun, it initially appeared that a sequel was in the works. Ross, who starred as T.I.’s hard-headed younger brother Ant in the film, took to social media on Sunday (Nov. 8) and posted photos of the entire original cast back together.
The next day (Nov. 9), Ross reposted one of the photos and broke the news to his followers. He captioned the photo with, "We are not in the middle of shooting #atl2. I just love this photo. Hopefully we will make a new one soon !"
During an interview with The YBF, London spoke on the rumored sequel and referred to the prospective ATL 2 as a "concept."
"It's not definitely in the works," she said. "I don't want to be the spokesperson for it. I don't want people take my word for it. So, no. Right now it is a concept and there's a lot of possibilities with that."
It was T.I.'s comments to Global Grind back in March that led everyone to believe that the film was actually real and happening.
"It's a sequel where everyone's coming back, there isn't any holdouts," he said. "Nobody's saying 'No, I'm not doing it,' regardless of any success they've assumed afterwards or how many other projects they have to work on. Everybody's coming back. And I think that, to me, is a sign of a sequel."
The original film, ATL, a coming-of-age story about a group of friends in Atlanta, was released in 2006. Big Boi, Jackie Long and Jason Weaver also starred in the film.
