Pink may be known for her boundary-pushing pop music and acrobatic live performances, but now the "Just Give Me a Reason" singer is on a new mission: to help eliminate childhood hunger. On Monday (Nov. 30), UNICEF announced that Pink is the new ambassador for its charity.
According to The Associated Press, Pink's work with UNICEF began this summer, when she visited Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and helped deliver a nutritional peanut paste to young children on the brink of starvation. "I got to watch mommas learning how to feed it to their kids," she said. "And within a week, you can see the difference in these children. It brings them back to life. It's amazing."
To help deliver the paste to children around the world, Pink has become the ambassador for a new child fitness bracelet, the UNICEF Kid Power Band. Following in line with something like a FitBit, the UNICEF Kid Power Band teams up with an app to help kids exercise throughout the day and stay active. As kids participate in various games and exercises, their progress is synced with the app. Points translate to dollars to bring the nutritional paste to kids in need across the globe.
Pink explained how the bands work on Good Morning America, saying that for every certain amount of points earned with the Kid Power Band, nutritional paste will be delivered to children around the world. For inactive kids, it's a way to help those in need while also helping their health.
