Jeezy and Janelle Monae have released the music video for their collaboration "Sweet Life," taken from Jeezy's latest album Church in These Streets. The moving video touches on the social issues that the Atlanta rapper tackles in his album, from violence in the urban community, to youth imprisonment and lack of economic opportunity.
The video starts with a dapper looking Jeezy sitting down at a desk as he flips through a paper with some troubling headlines. The video then cuts away to the issues those headlines address like youth imprisonment. It is a flashback to Jeezy's youth on the streets himself, which he once described as "empty."
It then flashes to another scene where three young black men meet on the street and things get violent as one pulls out a handgun and shoots the other two young men.
In a rags to riches story, the young Jeezy takes on rap as his muse and way out of the vicious cycle of violence and crime. He becomes a star, walking by a whole array of paparazzi taking their own non-deadly shots of him.
Janelle Monae sings her soulful verses from afar and makes an appearance at the end as Jeezy walks down the red carpet, while awards hang in the air.
"Sweet Life" is the third track to get a music video from Jeezy's eighth album Church in These Streets. Jeezy's music has gotten more mature as he has aged and to go along with some moving visuals it is a new era for the rapper.
