New Jersey school officials have released statements on Fetty Wap’s new music video for “Wake Up,” which takes place at his alma mater, Eastside High School, and they aren’t happy about it. There is reportedly even an investigation into the matter due to the content of the music video.
“As there are procedures that must be followed in securing the use of our facilities, whether all procedures were followed is in question and being investigated -- and will be addressed as a personnel matter,” spokeswoman for the district Terry Corallo said in a statement to NJ.com. “The district does not endorse the content of this video.”
Said content is a shot of a woman twerking, an image of an apple bong and some boys shooting dice. The song “Wake Up” was officially released this past April (April 20), but also references weed. The song was reportedly for the graduating class of Eastside High School.
“We have to do better than this,” Errol Kerr, a veteran school board member, said in another statement on the matter to NorthJersey.com. “We need to wake our children up about education, not something like this that I think is just a step over lewdness.”
Fetty Wap has no regrets on the song, and a TMZ source said that he sees the song as being “really a symbolic reference to getting high off success and finding your path after graduation.” But the weed references in the music video seem to discount this claim.
