Quincy Jones Criticizes Taylor Swift: ‘We Need Songs, Not Hooks’

Quincy Jones recently criticized Taylor Swift. The music producer also made it clear that he is not a fan of Swift's songs.

During a recent interview, Jones was asked to comment on Swift, and he made a face that proved he does not like the singer's music. Interviewer Chris Heath told Jones that a lot of people consider Swift as one of the best songwriters of her generation. Jones laughed and insinuated that every person has a different taste in music.

Heath asked Jones what he would do if he was tasked to record a song with the 28-year-old singer. He said that he will figure something out.

"Man, the song is [expletive] - that's what people don't realize. A great song can make the worst singer in the world a star. A bad song can't be saved by the three best singers in the world. I learned that 50 years ago," said Jones.

Even though the 84-year-old producer does not necessarily like Swift's songs, he admitted to being a fan of Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Mary J. Blige, Common and Jennifer Hudson.

EDM Producers Shade Taylor Swift

Jones is not the only producer who said something negative about Swift's music. After she released "Look What You Made Me Do" in the summer, EDM producers slammed the singer for her confusing track. One of them said that Swift's song is even worse than the album's artwork. Another producer said that she still is not a fan of Swift no matter what happens.

Despite the criticisms, the track became the most played single in a day on Spotify. The music video also became the most-watched video within 24 hours. "Look What You Made Me Do" also topped the music charts in 19 countries.

Jack Antonoff Opens Up About Taylor Swift Song

Jack Antonoff, the producer of the song, opened up about the success of the track, as well as the criticisms he received afterward.

"We knew that was going to happen. I remember saying: this is going to make think pieces on think pieces on think pieces!" said Antonoff.

The producer added that the whole intention of the song was for fans and critics to dissect, so they did not mind the scrutiny.
