Fergie responds to the criticisms she received following Sunday's performance. The singer sang the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star Game.
The 42-year-old member of the Black Eyed Peas said that she wanted to try something different and that is why she took a risk with her rendition of "Star-Spangled Banner."
"I've always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best," said Fergie.
Fergie's Performance Gets Criticized
Fergie's over 2-minute performance has already gone viral on YouTube. Those who have seen the video commented negatively on the singer's performance.
One viewer called Fergie's jazz rendition of the National Anthem cringe-worthy. Another viewer said Fergie sounded as though she had too much to drink.
One viewer also joked about the neighborhood dogs and cats attacking the windows when the animals heard Fergie singing. Another viewer said that he played the song to his dog, and the dog was not impressed.
Draymond Green's Hilarious Reaction
Golden State All-Star Draymond Green also made headlines on Sunday after his reaction to Fergie's singing was used as a GIF. Almost two minutes into the video, Green could not close his mouth in shock at Fergie's rendition. After he realized that he was being shown on the big screens, he and the other guests started laughing.
Jimmy Kimmel was also shown laughing while listening to Fergie, but the singer remained unfazed, and she continued her performance. Toward the end of her performance, Fergie told everyone that it is time to play some basketball.
Fergie Tapped As Host
Other than her recent performance, Fergie also made headlines after she was cast as the host of The Four: Battle for Stardom. Before the first season aired, Fergie admitted that there were a couple of times she could not control her emotions while filming the episodes. Whenever a contestant was booted off, Fergie became emotional because she could relate to them.
"It was heartbreaking. I can only speak for myself because I am standing right next to these artists. It was crushing. You see me holding the hand of somebody... and I am just their mommy up there. I can feel the nerves... the sweat, the shaking," said Fergie.
The Four: Battle For Stardom has been renewed by Fox for a second season.
