Pearl Jam has canceled an upcoming show at London's The O2 Arena after frontman and songwriter Eddie Vedder lost his voice.
On Tuesday, June 19, the alternative rock band announced the bad news on Twitter.
Pearl Jam Vocalist Eddie Vedder Loses His Voice
"Pearl Jam are very sorry to announce that they will be unable to perform tonight's show at the O2 Arena in London. The band is working on rescheduling the concert date to mid-July," a note from the band read. "Singer Eddie Vedder has completely lost his voice. He is on vocal rest for the next few days in an effort to heal and perform the remainder of the tour dates."
The band went on to say that they feel "gutted" to be forced to cancel the show especially because many fans will travel to London just to watch them perform. They, however, promised that tickets for the Tuesday night concert will still be valid and transferable to the rescheduled date next month.
The band is still set to perform at the I-Days Festival at Area Expo in Milan, Italy on Friday, June 22.
Pearl Jam is currently on a major European tour. Vedder and the rest of the band will also perform in venues in Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, and Portugal in the next couple of weeks.
In August, the Grammy winners will travel across North America to perform in baseball stadiums in Seattle, Missoula, Chicago, and Boston. Tickets in all venues and dates in the United States are sold out, according to the band's official website.
Pearl Jam Dedicates European Tour To Anthony Bourdain, Kate Spade
Last week, the band kicked off the European leg of their 2018 tour at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. During the show, Vedder went forward to the microphone and dedicated the performance to Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade, two artists who recently lost a tough battle with depression.
"We dedicate this to Anthony [Bourdain], my friend David [Spade], his brother Andrew [Spade]," said the 53-year-old. "They are deep in our hearts tonight and we thank you."
Bourdain, a chef and television personality, was found dead from an apparent suicide on June 8. He was in Paris to film new episodes for his show on CNN called Parts Unknown.
Meanwhile, Kate, a renowned designer, passed away on June 5 in her home in New York City. David and Andrew were her brother-in-law and husband respectively.
Pearl Jam, then, played the song "Long Road," the emotional 2000 hit from the album Merkin Ball.
