Earlier this week, Pearl Jam finally started their "Gigaton" tour at Viejas Arena in San Diego, California. They began on a good note by paying tribute to one of the biggest losses of the music industry this week year.
According to Q104.3, Eddie Vedder made a big move for Taylor Hawkins midway through their performance.
Referring to their drummer Matt Cameron's great relationship with the late musician, the frontman said, "He emitted something very incredible and very special. We're all missing him, and so, Matt, I'm sorry again for your loss."
Vedder added that the incident gave them another chance to say how much they appreciated him.
Red Hot Chili Peppers Also Paid Tribute to Taylor Hawkins
The tribute happened before the band performed their song "Quick Escape."
Pearl Jam's big move comes a few days after another legendary band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, did the same thing during their set at this year's Jazz Fest in New Orleans.
The band took the opportunity to honor the late drummer in front of thousands of crowds.
Hawkins' widow, Alison, and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl were among the audience members.
At the end of their performance, drummer Chad Smith offered a few kind words, "We love the Foo Fighters and our brother Taylor Hawkins."
Prior to the event, he had already revealed his plans to Billboard, saying the set would be about celebrating Hawkins' life.
He also mentioned inviting the late musician's wife to watch them perform.
"We're going to do all that and she's going to be part of that and I'm very honored that we can do that with her. We're going to play our hearts out," he said.
Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers have shared an incredible relationship over the past decades.
The "Best of You" hitmakers previously opened for the legendary band's "Californification" tour in 1999
At the time of Hawkins' death, Smith shared an emotional video on Instagram consisting of videos of him and the late drummer's moments over the years.
Taylor Hawkins passed away on March 25 in Bogota, Colombia. Foo Fighters was in the country to perform at a concert as part of their tour.
He died in his hotel room hours before their performance.
The Dave Grohl-fronted group has since canceled the remainder of their world tour.
