Jennifer Lopez was frustrated when she learned that she would not be the only performer at the 2020 Super Bowl. She said so herself, making some think she hated to work with Shakira. Although she clarified that her ire came from them not given enough time to show what they can do individually, Gloria Estefan thinks she was overreacting.
Estefan did not hold back in making her opinion known, even if it meant shading another legendary singer. She was obviously for the side of the SuperBowl showrunners and not J.Lo.
"Look, this is the bottom line. You have very little time, like 12 minutes or something, to get things on and off the set. So, could you do it with one person? Yes, but I think they wanted to throw a Miami and Latin extravaganza and they tried to pack it as much as possible," she said.
She was not afraid to name Lopez though. Directly dropping Lopez's name, "Okay, and imagine what J.Lo would have said if I was the third [performer]!"
But why was not she a third performer? Or a SuperBowl performer for that matter?

Turns out she was invited but she herself declined the opportunity!
In her conversation with Andy Cohen, Gloria claimed that she had the opportunity to sing with the two Latina superstars, but declined since "it was their moment." According to the Miami Herald, Gloria has played in two Super Bowls in the past, in 1992 and 1999. Her other reason for declining the performance was that she "didn't want to go on a diet in December," which she explained with a joke.
If Jennifer Lopez minded a bit about sharing the stage with Shakira, she certainly was very happy she could share it with her very special guest — her daughter Emme.
Lopez uplaoded a video of the moments leading up to her performance, which included a tender embrace with Emme, after her enthralling performance. She said all she wants is for her kid and other little girls everywhere to know that they can be proud of themselves and more importantly, that they can use their own voice to make the country great.
Lopez also recently performed with Emme again. They sang Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years" during the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala at Dodger's Stadium.
In a video captured by fans on TikTok, Lopez referred to Emme using they/them pronouns, shocking and delighting also some fans because of her openness.
