What happened to Fetty Wap's eye?
Fetty Wap's eye disability has also become the center of attention after the rapper's guilty plea to cocaine conspiracy. His fans found it unique as it makes him strikingly different from other hip-hop artists.
As he took over the internet again, the public became curious about what happened to his left eye. There were rumors that he was shot in the eye, stirring people's curiosity even more.
However, The Sun recently noted that Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, lost his left eye before his first birthday in 1992. The 31-year-old rapper never opened up about the cause of his long-time disability until he sat for an interview in 2015.
At that time, the rapper told DJ Self on Shade 45 that he lost his eye after an accident.
"When I was little, I had gotten into a little accident and it gave me congenital glaucoma in both of my eyes," he said. "The doctor saved one, I was blessed to still have my vision. That's it. That's the story."
The Glaucoma Research Foundation explains that childhood glaucoma is a rare condition that may be inherited by a baby. It is caused by incorrect development of the organ's drainage system before a person is born.
It also explains that the condition occurs within the first year of babies' lives.
Fetty Wap Never Felt Uncomfortable About His Eye
Aside from being grateful that his doctor still saved his right eye, the "Trap Queen" rapper also clarified that he fully embraced it.
"I'm probably one of the first rappers/singers to come on the scene with one eye and be comfortable with it," he said.
Fetty Wap also opened up about people's reactions to it, saying that most of them were judgmental.
He opted to have a prosthetic eye after the incident, but he eventually got rid of it when he began to feel comfortable with his disability as he accepted it.
The talks about his eye started soon after the rapper pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess and distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.
A spokesperson for the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York said that Fetty Wap is yet to receive his sentencing date. But his attorney already requested an expedited sentencing date.
CNN noted that his plea would result in five years in prison, although it has a sentencing range of between 87 and 108 months.
