Slipknot's leader, Corey Taylor, may or may not have confirmed or refuted Slipknot's headline status at the Download Festival next year. He gave an answer as vague as possible and knew that fans would be pissed by what he said. But then, it is the best he could do.
During a Q&A session at Manchester's "For The Love Of Horror" convention, the lead vocalist confirmed/denied the band's appearance/non-appearance.
Taylor had performed a solo show in the city on Friday night at the BEC Arena, described as a pre-party for the convention, before to his scheduled appearance at the convention for a series of autograph sessions.
Taylor also participated in a Q&A session with the audience, during which he was asked to comment on rumors that Slipknot will be performing at the UK's biggest metal event next year. After instructing the audience to pull out their cell phones, he continued to clarify the situation/muddy the waters.
Taylor said that he will try to be as clear as possible, and then proceeded to provide decidedly ambiguous responses while very purposefully nodding his head in a manner that strongly suggested the audience should be reading between the lines.
"On my life, I can neither confirm nor deny. I wish I could tell you that we're going to be there, I really do," he said. "Unfortunately, I don't have that answer right now," he continued, while grinning and nodding. "So I will tell you when I can."
Taylor concludes by chuckling and saying, "That will make people angry."

The convention's organizers, Monopoly Events, uploaded a TikTok video depicting the confirmation/denial. Taylor's four-date solo tour included the leader performing a 20-song performance of originals and covers, including versions of Slipknot's Snuff and Wait And Bleed.
The new Slipknot album "The End, So Far" is now available.
Recently, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has spoken out about the band's decision to leave Roadrunner Records after 22 years.
Taylor discussed the group's decision to quit Roadrunner in 2021 in a new interview for NME's The Big Read, citing changes within the record company as the primary cause for their departure. He revealed that the label is so different from when we initially signed with it. He added that once the band is in the hands of indifferent individuals, it's just business. That's exactly what occurred.
He emotionally shared that the band had to fight for every release because the people who work with Roadrunner today believe they know what they're doing, but they don't.
They attempted to give them advice, to which they have responded with doubt and incredulity. Taylor adds in the interview that the end of Slipknot's contract with Roadrunner Records inspired the band's latest album.
