Alanis Morissette is one of the most prolific female rock artists in the world. She has sold more than 75 million records worldwide apart from making her mark as one of the best Alternative singers in the music industry.
Supposedly, Morissette joins Olivia Rodrigo, among many other female singers, in a tribute performance to Rock Hall Class of 2022 Inductee Carly Simon. Although everything is planned out and rehearsed, the "Jagged Little Pill" hitmaker drops out on the performance.
She then went on to Instagram to drop some bombshell statement explaining why she ditched the performance in the first place.
According to Billboard, Morrisette is slated to perform "You're So Vain" with Olivia Rodrigo in the performance for Simon at the Rock Hall Induction Ceremony last Nov. 7, 2022, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
However, Morissette tapped out last minute on the performance.
Per an initial Page Six report, an insider dishes out that the duo's initial rehearsal for the song wasn't exactly prepared.
While many have accepted that reason at the time, the Candian music icon took to Instagram and explained her absence.
"I have spent decades in an industry that is rife with an overarching anti-woman sentiment and have tolerated a lot of condescension and disrespectfulness, reduction, dismissiveness, contract-breaching, unsupportiveness, exploitation and psychological violence (and more) throughout my career," she confessed in a statement.
Later in her post, Morissette went on how she tolerated it initially because severing her ties meant that she would stop her from connecting to those who she cared about.
"I live to serve and connect with people and so over the years I sucked it up on more occasions than I can count in order to do so. It's hard not to be affected in any industry around the world, but Hollywood has been notorious for its disrespect of the feminine in all of us," Morissette pointed out.
In her absence, Olivia Rodrigo had to take on her big-girl shoes and perform the whole song all by herself, which she had done, very well, as many would say.
For Alanis Morissette, she is confident that her absence speaks volumes about the sexism and discrimination in the industry, as she affirmed that there is no need for her to spend more time in an environment that reduces women.
Carly Simon, Dolly Parton, Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, and Lionel Richie were among the inductees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
