Many fans have been mourning after the news of Christine McVie's death made rounds online, but it appears that the most affected person is her good pal Stevie Nicks as they spent decades together performing under Fleetwood Mac; how did their friendship start?
According to CNN, the two became friends when Nicks joined the band in 1975. The public has been comparing the two frontwomen for years, but the outlet noted that their relationship isn't competitve as they always love and support each other.
Like any other friendship, the pair also experienced shortcomings, especially in the 1980s when the "Edge of Seventeen" songstress suffered from drug addiction and the band was slowly coming into an end due to tension between its members.
Luckily for them, the band, as well as the power duo, reconnected in 2014. At the time, Nicks performed "Landslide" during the group's concert, which she said was dedicated to her "mentor, big sister, and best friend."

Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks Friendship History
It all began when founder Mick Fleetwood wanted to recruit Lindsey Buckingham to the band. However, he had a condition, saying that he would only join if his girlfriend Nicks would join him as well.
At first, many thought there could be tension between McVie and Nicks as the former never played with another girl in a band before.
However, in a previous interview, the late musician revealed, "I liked her instantly. She was funny and nice but also there was no competition. We were completely different on the stage to each other and we wrote differently too." (via The Guardian)
On the other hand, Nicks also confirmed in an interview with the New Yorker that they hit off immediately upon meeting as it was amazing for her to be in a band with another girl.
"I would say to her, 'Together, we are a serious force of nature, and it will give us the strength to maneuver the waters that are ahead of us,'" she said.
Behind the band's success during their prime years, drug addiction was slowly taking over the members, leading McVie to distance herself as she was "sick of it."
Years later, they reunited for "The Dance" tour and another album, but the singer didn't last after being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 as she was scared to be exhausted in life while on the road.
After more than a decade, McVie decided to rejoin the band, saying she only came back because of her best friend.
Unfortunately, Christine McVie passed away earlier this week, which led Stevie Nicks to share a tribute to her old pal by citing lyrics from Haim's song "Hallelujah."
