Among other nominees were Chaka Khan, Janet Jackson, her husband Jay-Z, EGOT winner John Legend, Aaliyah, Mary J. Blige, Anita Baker, Freddie Jackson, and Babyface, among many other solo artists.

Music executives such as Clive Davis, who has devoted himself to championing Black artists like Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys, were also nominated. Berry Gordy, Burt Bacharach, Jermaine Dupri, and Luther "Skywalker" Campbell were also among the nominees.

Groups and acts like Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Stubbs Girls, The Controllers, New Edition, Daryl Hall & John Oates, The Isley Brothers, Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Bell Biv DeVoe, and even Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, were included in the list.

The announcement came weeks after Queen B's big win at the 2023 Grammy Awards. She snagged four awards of the night, including Best R&B Song for "Cuff It" and Best Traditional R&B Performance for "Plastic off The Sofa."

Notably, The Recording Academy was also nominated on the R&B Hall of Fame 2023 nominees.

The Recording Academy has faced backlash in the past few weeks following the controversy over Beyonce's nomination and winning streak.

Beyonce Grammy Awards Herstory

Beyonce made history at the 2023 Grammy Awards as she became the most nominated and most awarded artist in the history of the awards show, with 32 gramophones.

However, during the course of her career, she has yet to win the biggest award of it all - the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Her albums, "I Am.. Sasha Fierce," "Beyonce," "Lemonade," and most recently, "Renaissance," all failed to take home the award.

Spike Lee, one of the most revered R&B artists of all time, reacted to Beyonce's Grammy issue.

"There's a history of great black artists who come up for these awards and don't win. We all know their work is great because art speaks for itself. But then it always comes down to this tricky territory of validation," Lee said in a statement.

Lee expressed his support for Beyonce while at the same time clarifying that he has no disrespect to artists like Adele and Harry Styles, but the ruckus was "some straight-up bulls--t," he says.

Harry Styles' "Harry's House" won Album of the Year over Beyonce's "Renaissance."
