Why Did Death Cab For Cutie Cancel Their Tour?
Fans were saddened when the band initially canceled their upcoming concerts after vocalist Ben Gibbard suffered from a cold that affected his vocal cords, making him unable to perform.
"On behalf of the entire band, please accept our sincere apologies for cancelling our shows in your cities. We flew halfway across the world with the intent of playing music for you guys and it absolutely breaks our hearts to be unable to do so," the group wrote in a statement posted on their official Instagram account. The group also noted that there are a few factors outside their team's control, which includes seeking venues as there were many bands and music acts booking places after the COVID pandemic.
They also cited inflations and currency fluctuation as some of the reasons why they knew the tour would leave them "little margin for something going wrong."
In addition, Ben Gibbard caught a cold and there were moments wherein he tried to his voice to open up minutes before they were scheduled to perform and it was noticed by concertgoers in their Birmingham concert.
Over their decades-long career, the musician explained that they only cancel shows when they don't have any other option, anymore.
In other updates, the singer previously revealed that his band and The Postal Service will be joining forces for an upcoming tour across the United States this 2023.
The co-headlining tour will begin at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Oregon, on September 8.
