Samuel Timothy McGraw was born in Delhi, Louisiana on May 1, 1967. McGraw's father is baseball player, Tug McGraw, a star relief pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. Tug had a short affair with Tim's mother. Tim was raised most of his life as a child in the town of Start, Louisiana, close to Monroe.
Tim was a student at the Northeast Louisiana University, under a baseball scholarship. He studied sports medicine at the said school, as per Allmusic.com. At that time, Tim began playing the guitar to go along with the songs he sang.
How Tim McGraw Started His Career in Country Music
McGraw performed at local clubs, and dropped out of school in 1989 to pursue a full-time music career in Nashville. McGraw performed in Nashville clubs for a couple of years before he signed a record deal with Curb in 1992. McGraw's debut single, "Welcome to the Club," was released sometime during the same year. Afterwards, Tim's self-titled debut album was released the following year.

Although Tim's debut album failed to make it to the top of the charts, things changed for the better with his 1994 sophomore album, "Not a Moment Too Soon". Tim McGraw recently announced on social media that he's launched his own entertainment production and marketing company called Down Home. As the name suggests, McGraw's new business reflects the concept of his principle of being a family man to his wife, Faith Hill, and their three daughters.
