Disgraced Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins sustained non-life-threatening injuries following the brutal prison attack in His Majesty's Prison Wakefield, police confirmed.

Watkins, who received a 29-year sentence and six years on license for various child sex offenses, sustained injuries after he was stabbed and held hostage by his fellow inmates. Initial reports said he had life-threatening injuries that required him to be rushed to hospital, but a new update revealed the infamous frontman's current condition after the attack.

Ian Watkins' Injuries Not Serious

A Prison Service spokesperson confirmed after the attack that the police started a probe into the HMP Wakefield incident that left Watkins injured.

More details emerged this week as West Yorkshire Police released an update on the singer's condition.

"West Yorkshire Police were notified by staff at HMP Wakefield of an assault on a prisoner on the afternoon of Saturday, 5 August," they said in a statement, per The Mirror. "He was taken to hospital where his injuries are not understood to be life-threatening. Enquiries are ongoing."

Sources previously told the same news outlet about the fears that he could die from his injuries following the brutal attack.

The incident happened when three inmates took him hostage around 9 AM on Saturday. They reportedly stabbed him multiple times and beat him for hours before a prison personnel "freed" him.

Daily Mail reported that the men who attacked Watkins recently entered the prison and that the attack started following an ordeal over guitar lessons.

Police have yet to confirm the reports about the attack, but the probe is expected to determine what happened inside the prison.

Ian Watkins' Charges Explored

Watkins was arrested in September 2012 when the police raided his home in Pontypridd, Wales, after receiving a drug warrant. His ex-girlfriend Jo Mjadzelics, who exposed his horrifying crimes, waited for years to see his conviction as she was reportedly ignored whenever she tried to report him.

The disgraced singer was charged with several sex offenses and received his sentence after pleading guilty at Cardiff Crown Court. Among his crimes included the attempted rape of a baby, three counts of sexual assault involving children, and conspiring to rape a child, to name others.

Watkins committed another similar crime in 2017 when he reportedly groomed a mother from his prison cell.

"We're sickened," an NSPCC spokeswoman said at the time. "It's utterly bewildering that he could carry on grooming. It shows contempt for children he abused, and raises serious questions about supervision."
