Ian Watkins, the disgraced singer of the rock band Lostprophets, was reportedly held hostage and stabbed by his fellow inmates in HMP Wakefield.
According to reports, he was immediately taken to the hospital, but authorities are still investigating the incident that took place on Aug. 5.
Watkins was held hostage by three other inmates before he was stabbed with an object which authorities have not disclosed. As of this writing, this is the only statement released by the police service spokesperson, "We are unable to comment further while the police investigate."
Ian Watkins Jailed For Child Sexual Abuse
According to the Guardian, Watkins was found guilty of sexually abusing children back in 2013.
The authorities involved in the investigation against him found "a large number" of gadgets, like computers, cellphones, as well as storage devices, that incriminated him in the case.
He was sentenced to 29 years in prison and is 10 years into his sentence. The judge who presided over the case described Watkins' crimes as "plumbed new depths of depravity."
According to reports, Watkins was later found guilty of another crime in 2019, while he was in jail.
Authorities found cellphones in the singer's possession, which they alleged had something to do with other inmates.
Watkins refused to give up their names, noting that people surrounding him are "murderers and handy," "You would not want to mess with them."
He was given an additional six years.
Ian Watkins Convicted Pedophile
Before getting jailed and being convicted as a pedophile, Watkins was the frontman of the Lostprophets, a band he formed with his long-time friends.
Lostprophets has enjoyed success, with their albums selling millions worldwide and their songs topping UK and US music charts.
This all fell apart when his ex-girlfriend came forward with allegations that Watkins sent her messages about wanting to sexually abuse children.
After initially denying the charges against him, and the evidence piling up, Watkins eventually confessed to a number of crimes that he had committed.
During his sentencing, the judge said, "I am very conscious of the fact you are serving a very long time and you will be well into middle age by the time you are released.
"The fact of the matter is if there is not an appreciable penalty for having had a mobile phone in these circumstances then of course you would draw from that the lesson you could have another one and that is not a position I would want to encourage."
