Maren Morris continues to talk about the reason why she decided to leave the country music industry, saying it's all because of the heated politics behind it. In addition, she also noted that the issue had been affecting her health and well-being, leading her to change the trajectory of her career.
The musician recently spoke with the "New York Times" podcast where she recalled the issue not only affecting her mentally but also in physical aspects.
"I remember after the s*** in, like, 2021 or whatever it was, my hair started falling out," she said. (via Taste of Country)
The singer added that the issue was so bad, it felt like it was "attacking" her own body and the "stress is a very real thing."
Maren Morris Had No Intention to be an Activist
Elsewhere in the conversation, Morris said she had no intention to be an activist in the country music genre, but she was able to voice out her opinions and call out those people who have done wrong.
The singer has a more progressive thinking and beliefs compared to other artists, and the reason behind it is that she wanted to make a point.
One of the things that she did in the past was call out Morgan Wallen when a video of him saying a racial slur went viral on social media.
Later on, the musician opened up about being a "translator" between country music and the pop genre as she worked with many pop artists in the past.
I've had artists I've worked with who aren't in this genre [who ask me], 'What the hell is going on in Nashville right now?'... And I'm like, 'I don't know. I'm not its f****** keeper," she said.
Maren Morris is not Leaving Nashville Despite the Drama
As many people know, Nashville is the center of the country music industry. Although there was a drama surrounding the genre over the years, Maren Morris said she's not leaving the city as it is the area where she, her husband Ryan Hurd, and their son live.
"I wanna love living here again. I want to, like, create my piece of land that feels safe and I feel like I'm going to have to burn everything around it down," she said.
However, she admitted that it wasn't her thinking before she decided to quit country music, adding that she doesn't feel that way anymore in the present.
