In Hollywood, people are subjected to unhealthy and questionable beauty standards. Women, especially, have had harsher and more difficult experiences in the past decades with this issue.
Aside from the controversial standard of beauty in show business, ageism has also impacted the careers of female celebrities as they are subjected to harsher criticisms from fans. One person who has been the shock absorber of this idea is pop icon Madonna.
Now, Public Enemy frontman Chuck D is defending the singer's honor against trolls and her haters.
Madonna Struggling At 'Celebration' Tour?
On Twitter/X, a user uploaded a video of Madonna on one of her "Celebration" concert tour stops where she was performing "Ray of Light."
Noticeably, Madonna held on to a metal bar behind her back as she thrust her pelvis into the beat of the iconic song. While this has been seen by many as a safety precaution because she is hovering high up off the ground, the video was zoomed in to make it look like she was just dancing on the stage, which alters the perception of anyone who would watch the video.
This prompted negative comments about Madonna and her performance on social media.
"Who is buying these concert tickets, seriously? I would rather be electrocuted for 2 hours, than have to sit through this," one user asked.
"Who wants to see a woman in her sixties do this? She needs to come to grips with her age," another pointed out.
"If I wanted to pay a TON of money to see a 60+ year old woman dance in her underwear, I'd ask my wife. And she would say "Hell no'," someone said.
"Someone needs to tell Grandma to just stop it," one person commented.
Chuck D Defends Madonna
Although the said commentary online has not been confirmed to be the reason why Chuck D spoke up in support of Madonna, the Public Enemy frontman did not hold back in hyping up his previous collaborator.
"At 63 i know i can bike better than i ever did and Pilates aint easy but i give it to @Madonna for pushing the bars ... @FlavorFlav is taking Pilates too and hes 64 . So ageism sometimes gets like racism both ways if you let it. For anyone over 50 the rule is either you do the songs or the songs do you. @Madonna has some hard songs to perform in her catalogue," he tweeted.
Chuck D and Madonna's friendship goes back to 1990 when Madonna sampled "Security of the First World" for her song "Justify My Love."
