• Australian Music Festival Fails: 5 Events Suffering Bad Luck and Bad Organization in Memory of Sunbury

    Australia is one of the toughest places to stage a music festival due to its relative isolation from the rest of the world. There's plenty of fans to provide funding for a limited number of events but it's still tough to draw (and pay) huge acts for traveling so far for what's most likely to be just on appearance (versus a longer tour scenario, where headliners such as Katy Perry can make oodles of cash). Here are five festivals that have undergone downsizing down under recently.

    Mark Kozelek -- aka Sun Kil Moon -- had one of the busiest years of anybody in 2014, and he is already planning on giving fans a new album in 2015. In between pot shots at The War on Drugs, Kozelek promoted his critically acclaimed "Benji" -- released last February -- and began writing material for a new LP, which he predicts will have a fall 2015 release. "Luckily, I'm working on a new album now and hopefully that could be out by fall," Kozelek recently told "The Omaha World-Herald," via Stereogum, adding that he is "halfway" finished with it.
  • Simon Cowell's DJ Competition Show Will Premiere on Yahoo

    Simon Cowell's DJ competition reality show appears to have a home. It will premiere on Yahoo's online streaming platform Yahoo Screen, which made a large jump into the music sphere with an announced partnership with Live Nation to stream a concert a day live via the platform. Yahoo plans to premiere the weekly show, tentatively titled "Ultimate DJ," from the "American Idol" and "X-Factor" producer that will pit electronic dance music DJs against each other in a reality show where they will compete to be voted the best one.

The thrash icon and horror movie enthusiast has announced a lineup for the three-day event, although the characters he's booked for a panel may be even more exciting than the confirmed musicians: Slipknot's Corey Taylor, Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 and Slash will all appear in speaking roles.

Although there have been questions in the past over the relationship between the two bandmates, director Brett Morgen assured viewers at the film's premiere in Utah that a later cut of the film may include commentary from Grohl, who was interviewed for the project.

    Wu-Tang Clan members Raekwon and Ghostface Killah made an appearance at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday night to confirm what many in the hip-hop world were already reporting: The duo would be overseeing a documentary of the pair's landmark album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, which will be titled The Purple Tape Files. A trailer was revealed to the guests at the event, who enjoyed cocktails and a Q&A with the emcees at a "Purple Carpet" screening.
