Disney investigating Deadmau5's attempt to trademark mouse head logo
Last year, DJ Joel Zimmerman, a.k.a. Deadmau5, applied to trademark his notorious mouse head logo. As Billboard notes, the logo is a caricature of a mouse head with black ears, a black face, white eyes and a white mouth. If registered, the branding would cover all merchandise, including electronics, toys, drinks, vehicles (specifically BMX bikes), paper goods, leather goods, sporting goods, staple foods, light beverages and entertainment services. Jack White has announced his latest solo album, the follow up to 2012's Grammy-nominated Blunderbuss. Entitled Lazaretto, the effort is due out June 9 in the UK and June 10 in the US via his label Third Man Records. Along with the announcement, White released a "first taste" of the album called "High Ball Stepper," a gritty instrumental track preceding the first single and title track "Lazaretto," which is due out later this month. -
Robert Smith clarifies statements about the Cure's '4:13 Dream', '4:14 Scream' releases, says three new albums are in the works
Yesterday we reported that the Cure's Robert Smith wasn't too enthusiastic about the release of 4:14 Scream, the companion to 2008's 4:13 Dream. He called the project "a bit of a sore point" considering the band's lineup has shifted since 2008. Rather than rehash old material, he'd rather focus on new music with the current members. Now, Smith has posted a statement to the band's official website, clarifying his earlier remarks and revealing that three new releases are actually in the works. -

Epic Records to release posthumous Michael Jackson album, 'Xscape,' in May
Nearly five years after Michael Jackson's death, Epic Records is releasing material from the singer's archive vault for the upcoming album, Xscape, due out May 13. According to Billboard, the label CEO and executive producer, L.A. Reid, cultivated Jackson's completed vocal recordings and went about "contemporizing" each to give it a more current sound while maintaining what the label believes would've been Jackson's creative vision. -
