  • Future, Zaytoven Announce Joint Mixtape 'Beast Mode,' Share New Track 'Real Sisters' [LISTEN]

    Atlanta rapper Future has announced the release of a new mixtape titled "Beast Mode," a collaborative effort with producer Zaytoven — the cover artwork is above. The tape is set to drop Jan. 15, and on New Year's Eve, Zaytoven shared the project's first track, titled "Real Sisters," which you can check out below. Zaytoven's beat for the track is based around a keyboard line that sounds like it was ripped straight from a 8-bit video game soundtrack, while Future spits his Auto-Tuned, half-sung flow over the top of it.You can check out Future and Zaytoven's "Real Sisters" here:

  • PJ Harvey's Next Album to Be Recorded at London Art Exhibition

    Just as the Foo Fighters did with the HBO documentary series on the cross-country recording of their latest album "Sonic Highways," British singer-songwriter PJ Harvey plans on exposing the recording process of her next album to the public. But instead of filming her studio sessions like the Foos did, Harvey and her crew of musicians, engineers and producers will be recording the album in a custom-built studio inside London's Somerset House, which will be open to the public for viewing as part of an art exhibition titled "Recording in Progress," starting Jan. 16.According to the Somerset House website, the studio is designed "in the form of an enclosed box ... displaying PJ Harvey, her band, producers, and engineers as a mutating, multi-dimensional sound sculpture." Each studio session will take place 45 minutes at a time from behind one-way, sound-proofed glass — so Harvey will not be able to see you waving at her — and according to Harvey's Facebook page, the sessions could involve "anything from laying down a bass drum track, to discussions, to improvisations, through to full performances of new songs."The exhibition was conceived by Harvey and commissioned by Artangel.Tickets are on sale now for 15 pounds — about $23 — which you can purchase by clicking here.

  • Migos Share "Wishy Washy" Music Video [WATCH]

    Atlanta hip-hop trio, Migos, have shared the music video for their song, "Wishy Washy," which you can check out here. The Gabriel Hart-directed video features the trio rapping in a laundromat (these guys are tough) while surrounded by a bunch of women who are being quite blatantly objectified in pretty much every single shot.

  • Chief Keef Shares New Track "That Be Me" [LISTEN]

    Chicago rapper, Chief Keef, has rung in the new year with a new track for his fans titled, "That Be Me," which you can check out here. Keef doesn't so much rap as sing-speak with Autotune over YG On Da Beat's spacy production, which honesty sounds much better than most of the beats that Keef cooks up for himself. It's not clear if this track will ultimately appear on one of Keef's many upcoming projects or if it's simply a standalone single.

  • A$AP Rocky Shares New Track 'Pretty Flacko 2' [LISTEN]

    Though Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky hasn't been as busy during 2014 as many of his peers have been, he's intent on having the last word on the entire year with his long-awaited new track "Pretty Flacko 2," produced by Nez & Rio, which you can check out below. As its title suggests, the song is a sequel to Rocky's track "Pretty Flacko," which was released almost exactly two years ago on Jan. 1, 2012. Rocky debuted "Pretty Flacko 2" about two months ago at a show in London, and since then it's become one of the year's most anticipated singles.

  • Kid Ink Shares Globe-Spanning 'Hello World' Music Video [WATCH]

    To close out 2014, Los Angeles rapper Kid Ink has shared the music video for his song "Hello World," which you can check out below. The Born Original-directed video was shot during Ink's 2014 world tour in support of his most recent album My Own Lane, and is mostly comprised of shots of European cities such as Moscow and Paris, though by the video's end, Ink is back in the United States, rapping in the middle of Times Square in New York City.

  • Dolly Parton's Dollywood Theme Park Faces Lawsuit Over 2013 Injury

    In late December 2013, a Florida woman named Tedi A. Brown suffered a brain injury after falling from a ride at the Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, which is owned by country legend Dolly Parton. One year later, "Billboard" reports that Brown and her husband have filed a lawsuit against Dolly Parton Productions Inc. and Herschend Family Entertainment Corp., alleging that the ride's operators are responsible for Brown's headfirst fall, which resulted in "permanent impairments and disabilities."According to the lawsuit, Brown's accident occurred on a ride called the Waltzing Swinger, which features swinging chairs with a lap bar mechanism to keep riders restrained. But Brown lifted the lap bar before it was safe to do so, and due to the wintry weather conditions that day slipped out of her seat and fell 10 feet onto the pavement below, resulting in "spine and neck injuries, torn ligaments, and a broken jaw."The lawsuit alleges that Brown and her family were falsely informed that the ride would be safe under such wintry conditions and that Brown was not warned to keep herself restrained until the ride was completely finished and safely on the ground.

The brief track is backed by a relatively traditional boom bap beat, along with some wonderfully spacey and psychedelic production flourishes that would make Dan the Automator proud.   • Dimebag Darrell: Unreleased Song 'Whiskey Road' Surfaces from Late Pantera Guitarist [LISTEN]

    Guitar magazine "GuitarWorld" has unearthed a previously unreleased song by late Pantera/Damageplan guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott titled "Whiskey Road", which you can check out below. According to "Rolling Stone," "Whiskey Road" was recorded back in 2001 as Pantera was finishing up their final U.S. tour, with Dimebag playing every instrument on the recording himself. The song has been pressed to a special vinyl flexi-disc by GuitarWorld as a part of their upcoming Dimebag tribute issue, and have even shared the song's guitar tabs.Although Dimebag's work with Pantera and Damageplan was pretty riff-heavy and brutal, "Whiskey Road" is more mellow and country-tinged, with acoustic guitar being the primary instrument, though Dimebag still makes room for some bluesy, distorted guitar solos.You can check out Dimebag Darrell's "Whiskey Road" here:

  • Rich Homie Quan, Yo Gotti Appear on SBOE's 'Better Than Them' with Boosie Badazz [LISTEN]

    Queens hip-hop group SBOE — Slow Bucks Over Everything — have shared a new track titled "Better Than Them," featuring guest appearances by Rich Homie Quan, Yo Gotti and Boosie Badazz, which you can check out below. According to "Hot New Hip-Hop," this track originally appeared earlier this year on an SBOE mixtape, only without the guest spots from Quan, Gotti and Boosie, so this seems like a deliberate attempt to turn this into a hit. The song features some heavy-hitting, dramatic production from London On Da Track and opens with a lengthy sample of Samuel L. Jackson's climactic speech from "Pulp Fiction." The vocals don't seem to be mixed very well though and often rise uncomfortably far above the beat.

    Toronto indie rock collective, Broken Social Scene, has shared the music video for its song "Golden Facelift," which you can check out here The video is basically a five-minute recap of all the major events in 2014, ranging from the rise of ISIS to the racial tensions in the United States to inconsequential viral videos, but when placed side by side, they all come off as equally significant in the building of our culture. There are also some graphic shots of surgical procedures, so don't watch if you're squeamish.

  • Justin Bieber Hints at New Album Coming in 2015

    When caught up in his seemingly endless supply of scandals and lawsuits, it's easy to forget that Justin Bieber is, first and foremost, a musician, and over the last few days, the 20-year-old singer has dropped some hints that new music will soon be on the way. On his Twitter account yesterday (Dec. 29), Bieber responded to MTV's pleas for a new album in 2015 with a simple "no problem."

  • Wiz Khalifa, Waka Flocka Go EDM In Borgeous & Whoo Kid's "Toast" Video [WATCH]

    Last month, EDM producer Borgeous recruited rappers Wiz Khalifa and Waka Flocka and hip-hop producer Whoo Kid for "Toast," and today (Dec. 30), the song's music video has been shared, which you can check out below. The video incoporates Borgeous live performance footage alongside glitchy images of Wiz and Waka rapping (though "chanting about partying" is a more accurate description of what they're doing). According to Hot New Hip-Hop, the video was put together by Dan The Man and Kirill Was Here, and features footage filmed at the University of Illinois and New York's Pacha nightclub.

    Synthpop band Passion Pit have confirmed that they are currently at work on a new studio album, which would be their third overall, and first since 2012's Gossamer. This news came via the band's Facebook page, with a photo of frontman Michael Angelakos sitting in front of a tracking chart in the studio (which you can see up above). Though most of the song titles are blacked out like some sort of declassified CIA report, two titles — "Intro" and "Five Foot Ten" — are still visible, as well as slots reserved for "Covers (TBD)" and "B-Sides (acoustic versions)."

  • T.I., Jeezy Drop New Verses on Dej Loaf's 'Try Me' Remix [LISTEN]

    Up-and-coming Detroit rapper Dej Loaf has shared yet another remix of her hit single "Try Me," this time featuring new verses by Jeezy and T.I., as well as a new verse from Dej herself, which you can check out below. In true Joey Bada$$ fashion, "On and On" is yet another excellent '90s east coast throwback, with some crackling, jazzy production courtesy of Freddie Joachim. British singer-songwriter Maverick Sabre contributes the soulful hook, while Joey's fellow Pro Era rapper Dyemond Lewis drops a verse.

The Be El Be-directed clip finds the three rappers partying and chilling in a few different locations, both indoors and outdoors. It's worth noting that Dej appears to be the only woman in the video, which is appropriate since the song is all about how she has no "hoe in her blood" or any "in her circle."

    Los Angeles singer/rapper TeeFLii has shared a new track titled "Blue Lipstick," a collaboration with Chris Brown, which you can check out below. The track has some refreshingly unique production, with some slinky guitars and funky synths anchored by a hard-hitting boom bap beat. TeeFLii and Chris Brown trade lines, and though the overtly sexual lyrics are the song's weakest spot, the production more than makes up for it.

    Los Angeles rapper Kid Ink has shared a new track titled "Ready 4 War," which you can check out below. The track features some anthemic, EDM-inspired production from Kane Beatz and J Mike, and when coupled with Ink's half sung/half rapped chorus hook, the whole thing sounds like it could have been included on Kanye West's arena-sized Graduation album. According to the track's Soundcloud page, this song was actually recorded a few years ago, not long after he signed his record deal. "Still my s**t tho!," he writes.

  • Metric Share New Song "The Fatal Gift," Currently Working On New Album [LISTEN]

    As a Christmas gift to their fans, Canadian indie rock band Metric have shared an unfinished version of a new song titled "The Fatal Gift," which you can check out below. Though the band is known for their synthy new wave sound, "The Fatal Gift" is a low-key piano ballad with minimal instrumentation, though they may fill out the arrangement later on, seeing as how this is unfinished.

  • N.E.R.D. Share 'Squeeze Me' from Upcoming 'SpongeBob' Movie [LISTEN]

    Pharrell Williams's funk/hip-hop outfit N.E.R.D. have shared a new track titled "Squeeze Me," which you can check out below. The track is N.E.R.D.'s first since their 2010 album "Nothing" and is their contribution to the soundtrack for the upcoming "SpongeBob SquarePants" movie, which is being helmed by Pharrell along with his N.E.R.D. bandmate — and Neptunes production partner — Chad Hugo.In true Pharrell fashion, "Squeeze Me" begins with an instrumental four-count, and keeping with the tropical setting and imagery of "SpongeBob SquarePants," the song has a vaguely Caribbean atmosphere to it, like a cross between ska and calypso.You can check out N.E.R.D.'s "Squeeze Me" from "The Spongebob Movie" here, via "Spin":

  • Thom Yorke Shares New Song "Youwouldn'tlikemewhenI'mangry," Named Most Legally Downloaded BitTorrent Artist Of 2014 [LISTEN]

    Back in September, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke unexpectedly released his second solo album Tomorrow's Modern Boxes through torrenting site BitTorrent, but just in case there were some people who were turned off or confused by its release method, Yorke has given the album a more conventional release today (Dec. 26) through Bandcamp. In addition to posting the album on Bandcamp (available for £3.86, or $6.00), Yorke has also shared a new track titled "Youwouldn'tlikemewhenI'mangry," which you can check out below. Like Tomorrow's Modern Boxes, "Youwouldn'tlikemewhenI'mangry" is a minimal electronica track with sterile beats, warped synths, and Yorke's trademark falsetto.

  • Chief Keef, Fredo Santana Drop New Track 'Bodies on the Ground' [LISTEN]

    Yesterday, Chicago rappers — and cousins — Chief Keef and Fredo Santana dropped a new collaborative song just in time for Christmas titled "Bodies on the Ground," which you can check out below. As can be expected from these two, the song finds them sluggishly mumbling their way through the track, as if they recorded the first thing out of their mouths when they woke up in the morning.   • Beyoncé's '7/11' Remixed by French Montana, Detail [LISTEN]

    Bronx rapper French Montana has teamed up with producer Detail for a remix of Beyoncé's recent single "7/11," which you can check out below. While the original track is a hard-hitting club banger, this remix replaces the synths with an airy acoustic guitar line and some piano.
