Símon Diaz, a Venezuelan music icon, passes away at age 85
Simón Díaz, one of the preeminent musicians in Venezuelan history, passed away Wednesday at his home in Caracas. He was 85 and had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for some time. -
Pharrell Williams "Happy" to top Digital Downloads chart, Katy Perry falls, Jason Derulo rises
Things are looking optimistic for America, as Pharrell Williams' track "Happy" rose to the top of the Billboard Digital Downloads chart last week (not that a song named "Sad" was ever at the top). Williams got a continued boost from radio play, Beats commercials, DVD sales of Despicable Me 2, The NBA All-Star Game...just about everything. The track jumped 31 percent in sales and moved 329,000. -

Billy Corgan playing tribute to 'Siddhartha' with eight-hour synth interpretation
Billy Corgan is a man of many curious tastes and talents. The Smashing Pumpkins auteur will put both on display with an eight-hour live interpretation of Herman Hesse's novel Siddartha played on synthesizers to a precious few attendees at a tea house he owns in the Chicago suburbs. The performance is scheduled for February 28. -
Guns 'n' Roses announce second Las Vegas residency at Hard Rock Hotel: 'No Trickery! An Evening of Destruction'
When a band has an appetite for destruction such as the Guns 'n' Roses, it's tough to stay away from Las Vegas for long. The group caused all sorts of trouble the last time it took up residence in Sin City, but announced on Tuesday that it would be playing another round of shows during 2014. The "No Trickery! An Evening of Destruction" residency will take place at the Joint theater inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino between May 21 and June 7. -

The common story, as heard from musicians and music industry officials, is that Spotify and similar streaming service providers are evil and are killing new music. Fishbone ordered to pay $1.4 million to fan injured in stage dive
Stage diving has become the latest concerts-may-kill-you craze in the last week, as several prominent performers have been accused of, and convicted of, causing injury by lunging into crowds from the stage. Music Times reported on Tuesday that EDM DJ Skrillex was being sued by a fan who alleged he caused her to have a stroke by stage diving, and now alternative rockers Fishbone are being ordered to pay a fan $1.4 million for injuries resulting from the stage antic. -
