  • Luke Bryan Announces Schedule for 2014 'That's My Kind of Night' Tour

Just like a plant needs sunlight to carry out photosynthesis and continue its survival, Luke Bryan seems to require constant touring, lest he withers up. The country star, whose Crash My Party has been selling well enough to afford him a break from touring, just announced his first tour of 2014. Bryan took a break from his "Dirt Road Diaries Tour" so that he could jump into his annual "Farm Tour" during early October, and once he wrapped that up he jumped right back into "Dirt Road Diaries."
  • Back of The Billboards: 'When The Night' by St. Lucia

Society always celebrates the records that top the Billboard 200 album chart. Back of The Billboards is a Music Times weekly segment that looks at the opposite end: the new record that finished closest to the back of the Billboard 200 for the previous week. We hope to give a fighting chance to the bands you haven't heard of.
  • Miley Cyrus Will Perform at MTV's European Music Awards, Network Hopes Shenanigans Draw Viewers

If something works, don't go changing it. It's a common maxim that MTV is employing during its planning of the MTV Europe Music Awards. The network announced on October 17 that Miley Cyrus, who was the "highlight" of the summer's VMAs, would be performing at the European event as well. Cyrus had been drawing headlines for her bad-girl behavior prior to the event, took the pop culture moment of the year when she began grinding all over vocalist Robin Thicke, and seemingly mimicked pleasuring herself with a giant foam "no. 1" finger. And that was in New York City. Imagine what she could do in Amsterdam, the host of this year's EMA ceremony.
  • Drake and Future Friends Again, Rapper Back On Tour With Drizzy

After reports that Drake had fired rapper Future from his "Would You Like A Tour" tour, it seems that the pair have figured things out, and that Fizzy would indeed join Drizzy when the tour begins on October 18, at least according to a report given on Atlanta radio station Hot 107.9.
  • CMT Names Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Three Others 'Artist of The Year.' Read Who and Help Us Narrow It Down

One problem with country music is that it doesn't deal with sparring very well. Nearly everything vaguely resembling a competition gets watered down so neither side looks bad. The genre's media was left in a bind following the war of words between Zac Brown followers and Luke Bryan followers after the former artist blasted the music of the latter. In the end, CMT and others did they're best not to make anyone look bad. So, it's not entirely surprising that five different performers will share this year's CMT Artist of The Year Award.
  • NCIS Stars Michael Weatherly and Pauley Perrette Discuss Original Songs for Television Show's Soundtrack [LISTEN]

NCIS has released several volumes of audio from the hit TV series' soundtracks. The most recent collection, NCIS: Benchmark, is almost entirely radio-ready music, featuring contributions from Hank Williams, The Neon Trees, Lady Antebellum and more. Perhaps most interesting are the two original tracks contributed by actors from the show, Pauley Perrette (Abby) and Michael Weatherly (Tony). The pair gave a quick rundown on what they were thinking when they recorded their tracks.
  • Drake and Future Feud Over Albums and Tour Firing, Lawsuit Coming From R&B Star

There are roughly 2,800 rappers who tout themselves as the greatest rapper alive. Normally this hasn't prevented the Jays and Kanyes from making albums together, but on October 15, it became an issue when Future downplayed the talent of his temporary boss, Drake, who was hosting the former on his "Would You Like a Tour?" tour.
  • Charlotte Church Attacks Robin Thicke and Britney Spears for 'Juvenile' Attitude Toward Sexuality

If anyone can talk about having juvenile attitudes in the music industry, it's Charlotte Church. Although Church, the classically trained Welsh pop sensation, was referring to immaturity in the music industry, she's had plenty of experience as both a child and an adult in the music business. She released her first album when she was 12 years old, becoming an international sensation. The theme of her talk at the third annual John Peel Lecture regarded the juvenile approach to sexuality in the industry.
  • Eminem Drops Divine Flow and Baits Censors During New Song 'Rap God' [LISTEN]

Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 is due to drop on November 5, and so far fans have gotten a taste of Slim's popular side with "Berzerk." The rapper dropped a second track from the album on October 14 however that represents the rapper at his best. Although "Rap God" doesn't have the catchy hook of "Berzerk," it features a flow to die for.
  • Taylor Swift Wasn't The Only One Honored by The Nashville Songwriters International on Sunday...

All the chatter out of Nashville in the last few days has been about Taylor Swift winning her sixth Nashville Songwriters Association International Songwriter of The Year Award (plus the opening of her new education center at the Country Music Hall of Fame). Congratulations to her, but let's give some credit to the four individuals who were enshrined in the NSAI Hall of Fame on Sunday. Swift will get there eventually we're sure, but these guys deserve some spotlight.
  • NFL Plans Super Bowl Concerts for Every Borough in New York...But Where? Check Out Music Times' Suggestions

The NFL understands the appeal of musical performance, and thus are compiling the biggest collection of artists for Super Bowl 2014, which will be held in New "New York City" Jersey. Bruno Mars will perform the actual game, but at least five other acts will take a stage in each of the five boroughs of the city. Problem no. 1: New York in February will almost assuredly be cold, certainly too cold for outdoor musicianship. Problem no. 2: Most of the boroughs aren't equipped for indoor concerts.
  • DMX and Swiss Beatz Confirmed to be Teaming Up Again For Rapper's Next LP

DMX hasn't had a great 2013. Although the rapper has a long rap sheet of arrests, he's had various auto mishaps this year, including DUI and driving in possession of four packages of marijuana. Plus, footage emerged of a nude X running around a hotel. He wasn't charged with anything, but it still led many to question his mental shape. Producer Swiss Beatz wants to get DMX back to the place he was at the end of the decade however.
  • A Perfect Circle Releases New Song: Is New Album Far Behind? [LISTEN]

A Perfect Circle has a tightly knit compilation of fans that either dig the band's ability to go from stomping menace to melodic lullaby, or they're Tool fans that need something to tide them over until vocalist Maynard James Keenan comes around. Tool hasn't released anything since 2006, and Circle since 2004, so those fans are thirsty for something (Keenan's other band, Puscifer, has put out two albums, but Music Times doesn't find them up to snuff). The kind-of good news is that A Perfect Circle released a new track, "By and Down," on October 14.
  • Rumour Has It Adele Considering Residency in Las Vegas...for $40 Million

Adele may be performing a slew of dates in the United States next year, but that doesn't mean the British vocalist will be going on tour. According to rumors given to The Sun in London, the "Rolling in The Deep" songstress is fielding offers from several Las Vegas casinos with offers to perform a residency. There's no word on how many shows the gig would entail, but the payment is said to be in the $40 million range. Elton John has been advising Adele in support of the deal, the source added.
  • Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Eric Church to Headline Stagecoach Festival: Check Out Music Times' Picks

If you think that Indio Valley, CA. might not fit them theme for one of the year's biggest country music festivals, you might be right. But then again, it'd be wrong of us to deny country musicians access to the same Los Angeles-area weather that's inspired just about every other genre we know of. The Stagecoach Festival just announced its lineup for April 2014, and here's a quick summation of the acts that caught Music Times' eye:
  • The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bob Dylan: Cream's Ginger Baker Hates 'Em All

Ginger Baker, the legendary drummer for Cream, has never been accused of being short-winded. Listening to live jams, or Music Times' particular favorite, his epic solo during supergroup Blind Faith's "Do What You Like." Many look to Baker and possibly Who drummer Keith Moon as the originators of the extended drum solo (even if it began with jazz percussionists much earlier). Baker's also notorious for not suffering fools lightly, a common theme during 2012's award-winning documentary Beware of Mr. Baker. Rolling Stone's Patrick Doyle had to deal with just that when interviewing the drummer last week.
