    Record of the Year is the Grammy award that truly defines an era of popular music. Given to the people truly behind what makes a song pop (the artist, producer, mastering engineer, recording engineer and mixer), this one is all about performance. Past winners of this massive category include essential songs like Michael Jackson's "Beat It," Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" and Daft Punk's "Get Lucky."

The top 100 albums and singles has some local flavor with names like Flight Facilities and Hermitude getting love, but it is dominated by familiar global stars like Mark Ronson, Adele, Justin Bieber, Major Lazer and Ed Sheeran.

    Ed Sheeran was feeling pretty generous this holiday season when he dropped a hefty $1.1 millon and gifted his parents, John and Imogene Sheeran, a brand-new home in London along with a Mini. The "Thinking Out Loud" singer, who recently went on a year-long social media boycott, kept his parents close by buying them the house across the street from his very own flat in London. A sweet gesture regardless, but Sheeran did have a motive of his own-expectations that their close proximity's means his parents can watch his kids in the future.

    Ed Sherean has recently spent some time in New Zealand while wrapping up the closing dates to his extensive world tour. While jumping off of a yacht in Spain earlier in the year, the 'X' singer burst his ear drum while landing in the water, leading him to be scheduled for an operation after the new year.
