Last week was the last for musicians to make a statement on the charts for 2013, and at least four albums left a mark during the closing moments of the year. Let's start with the notable accomplishers. -
A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera top Digital Downloads charts for second week
The end of the year didn't bring any new albums to the Billboard 200 Top 10 this week, and the Top 10 of the Digital Downloads charts didn't bring too many fresh faces either. -
Beyoncé, Garth Brooks, One Direction top Billboard 200 amidst no significant releases
The year is coming to a close, and that means you shouldn't expect too many new releases coming down the pipe. This week's Top 10 of the Billboard 200 didn't have any new entries, so expect to see some familiar names. -
Eminem, Run The Jewels do their best to ruin Christmas with photos, video
Being Christmas and all, it's only natural that performers across the rap game broke out of their cynical fronts and delivered messages of hope and joy in order to celebrate the birth of Christ. Yeah, right. -
Eminem, Janelle Monae, Haim Join Music Times' Top 10 Albums of 2013
As with any other group conversation between the writers of Music Times, the debate between what albums to include on the site's Top 10 of the year was less than professional. There was crying (Ryan Book), yelling (Nicole Oran), and even threats of violence (Caitlin Carter). Ultimately, after countless votes and demands for recounts, ten finalists were chosen. Check out the albums that we kept in the stereo throughout 2013, along with defenses from the staff writers that loved the most. -
A Great Big World retakes Digital Downloads top spot; Pitbull/Ke$ha and Eminem/Rihanna follow
"Timber" seemed like it might have been ready to hold down the Digital Downloads chart for a while, but another track had other ideas. -
Beyoncé zeitgeist leads to top of Billboard 200; Garth Brooks, Kelly Clarkson, R. Kelly place
Beyoncé's new album was totally unannounced, plus it came out on Thursday versus the traditional Tuesday release, plus it was only available on iTunes, so there's no way that it could have made a big Billboard 200 impact, right? HA. -
Eminem and Rihanna release 'The Monster' video [WATCH]
Yesterday Eminem teased a clip for the Rihanna-assisted "The Monster." Today, he released the full video. In it, Rihanna plays Em's therapist, trying to help him confront the skeletons in his closet. -
Caitlin Carter's Playlist of 2013: Eminem, Paul McCartney, and Rich Homie Quan
Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are neccesarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again -
Eminem teases clip for 'The Monster' video with Rihanna [WATCH]
Eminem has released a teaser for the video fo his Rihanna collaboration "The Monster." In it, Rihanna plays Eminem's therapist, helping Em navigate his way through issues tied with his past. -
Pitbull and Ke$ha beat Eminem and Rihanna for Digital Downloads in slow sales week
For some odd reason, Christmas singles don't sell. Although the Billboard 200 was full of suddenly-popular CD's containing boatloads of "chestnuts," the Digital Downloads Top 10 didn't reflect the same. Which isn't to say that popular music downloads did particularly well either. -
Garth Brooks tops Billboard 200 after tour announcement, One Direction stays strong, Britney Spears debuts weak
Album sales were down from last week, but last week's totals included Black Friday, so it was bound to happen. That doesn't mean Black Friday's stars were ready to give up their spots on the Top 10 however.
