While many argue the merits of the long-suffering publication as well as the results therein--hey, the lot of us feel the same way about the Grammys--the Voice's P+J issue (conceived of by disgraced music editor, Bob Xgau) is about as consensus as we're likely to get these days. -
Florida's inaugural Big Guava Festival announces 2014 lineup including OutKast, Vampire Weekend and more
Despite, as Consequence of Sound notes, the fact that Florida is where many festivals (save Ultra and Bear Creek) go to die, a new festival has sprung up called Big Guava Music Festival. The inaugural festival takes place May 2-4 in Tampa and with the lineup it is boasting, it might just get Florida back in the festival game. -

Haim says 'Yeezus' was a favorite album last year and they want to tap into their "inner Kanye" in 2014
A lot of people start a new year with goals and a vision toward what's next, and the same is true for Haim sisters after an amazing run in 2013. -
Eminem, Janelle Monae, Haim Join Music Times' Top 10 Albums of 2013
As with any other group conversation between the writers of Music Times, the debate between what albums to include on the site's Top 10 of the year was less than professional. There was crying (Ryan Book), yelling (Nicole Oran), and even threats of violence (Caitlin Carter). Ultimately, after countless votes and demands for recounts, ten finalists were chosen. Check out the albums that we kept in the stereo throughout 2013, along with defenses from the staff writers that loved the most. -

Nicole Oran's 2013 Playlist: Jay Z, Daft Punk and Savages
Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are necessarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again. -
Caitlin Carter's Playlist of 2013: Eminem, Paul McCartney, and Rich Homie Quan
Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are neccesarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again -
Disclosure, Chvrches, other alternative acts top Hype Machine's 'Most Blogged' list
If you roll your eyes at the term "blogosphere," at least acknowledge the truth the music world on the internet is vastly different from real-life music. The most telling example is Hype Machine's yearly 'Music Blog Zeitgeist,' which counts down the Top 50 performers based on how often they're mentioned in over 820 prominent music blogs. Hint: Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Eminem, Jay Z and Katy Perry didn't make the list. -
Florence Welch showed up onstage and crowdsurfed at Haim's sold out London show
Last night, audience members at the sold out Haim at London's Forum got a special treat when Florence and the Machine singer (Florence Welch) showed up, which is already cool just because she was there, and especially because she was wearing a Haim T-shirt with true support, but she ended up crowdsurfing. -
SPIN releases annual list of best albums; Kanye West, Chance The Rapper, and Vampire Weekend vie for top spot
SPIN Magazine, one of our most trusted sources for music across many genres, has released its annual list of the best 50 albums of the year. Yes, it's a bit early (not going to give Britney Spears a fair shot guys?), but we're sure they're just trying to beat the holiday rush (you'll be able to check out Music Times' albums of the year list on December 23, and our staffers' respective playlists of the year on December 16). The top album is something you've definitely heard of, but may still come as a surprise. -
