Billboard Hot 100 vs. Official Charts Company by Decade: Wiz Khalifa, Oasis, Gwen Stefani and 40 Years of No. 1s
Few people realize just how different the music across the pond is from that we listen to in America, that the Hot 100 doesn't exist in the UK, and that its equivalent to our singles chart doesn't just feature a whole bunch of American artists with even more One Direction and Ellie Goulding tracks. Music Times is looking back at the last five decades of music, and at the no. 1 hits on April 2 every ten years on the spot, going back to 1975. The ultimate contest, of course, is which country has better taste. Last month the win went to the UK in the best-of-five showdown. This month features Wiz Khalifa, Gwen Stefani, Oasis and more in the field. -
8 Oasis No. 1 UK Hits: 'Don't Look Back In Anger,' 'The Hindu Times,' 'Lyla' and More
Oasis, the most essentially-British band of the last 30 years (by both their own reckoning and ours), finally topped the charts in the Gallagher brothers' beloved UK 20 years ago today, with the single "Some Might Say," the first song off of the band's beloved album (What's The Story) Morning Glory? The band ended up topping the UK singles charts seven more times throughout its career (and only getting as high as no. 8 on the U.S. charts). Here are those no. 1 singles...be prepared for a few surprises (in terms of what didn't make it, if anything). -

Noel Gallagher Claims He Lost Millions as a Solo Act: Former Oasis Member Might Retire From Touring
After Oasis broke up in 2009, Noel Gallagher took some time off before he released his first solo album, 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.' He released the effort on his own label, Sour Mash, because he did not want to put up with majors anymore. The result was more independence and less money. "Everything I've done since I left Oasis has come from my own pocket," Gallagher told 'Loaded' recently. "You've got to pay for the tour, got to pay for the wages and you don't really break even for about nine months. I don't mean I lost money. I mean I lost a f**king s**tload of money. It was a few million, like. I had to lie to Sara [MacDonald, his wife] at first, and when I eventually did tell her, she freaked out -- I mean freaked out." -
