In an age where similarities between songs can be the cause of multimillion-dollar lawsuits, you better make damn sure you get your samples cleared. The most recent case of alleged, or at least suggested, foul play was Jamie xx's "I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times)," which features a prominent sample of The Persuasions' 1972 hit "Good Times." Last week band member/manager Jimmy Hayes stated that the sample hadn't been cleared...but he was wrong. -
Junk Mail: Snoop Dogg, 'BUSH' Album Review
Snoop Dogg’s new Pharrell-produced album BUSH has arrived. Although he adopted the monikers Snoop Lion and Snoopzilla for his past few projects, he’s back as Snoop Dogg for this effort, despite the fact that album isn’t very rap heavy. With Pharrell helming the production, I was expecting a sound closer to “Beautiful” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” however Snoop turned BUSH into a tribute to the funk and R&B of the ‘70s and channeled the spirit of an OG. I applaud the album for its cohesion, but only a few songs really grabbed me. I definitely see this as more of a background album for chilling out than for getting hyped or dissecting lyrically. What did you guys think? -

Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams Push for 'Blurred Lines' Retrial
Attorneys for Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams are pushing for a retrial in the case of "Blurred Lines" and its similarities to Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up." The original trial wrapped up during March, resulting in more than $7.4 million in payouts for the plaintiffs. Now the duo is suggesting to U.S. District Judge John Krandstadt that they should be given another shot in a courtroom due to errors in jury instruction and "improper testimony" from a musicologist. -
Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars Add The Gap Band to 'Uptown Funk' Writing Credits After 'Blurred Lines' Lawsuit
Everyone gets a writing credit on Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk," it seems. In the wake of the Robin Thicke/Pharrell Willams "Blurred Lines" lawsuit, which awarded Marvin Gaye writing credits, Ronson's 14 week No. 1 hit has five new writers thanks to similarities between the Uptown Special track and The Gap Band's "Oops Upside Your Head." -

'The Voice' Season 8 Recap & Review: Top 10 Perform & Koryn Hawthorne Breaks Out as Joshua Davis Falls Flat
If this is what The Voice top 10 has to offer, well, it's going to be easy to trim it down this week (or so it should be). The theme of the night wasn't superstar producers but inconsistency(though guest mentor appearances from Mark Ronson, Dave Stewart, Scott Hendricks and Ryan Tedder helped it seemed like the former).
