We are sounding like a broken record, but more is better when it comes to options for festivals. Competition is a beautiful thing and if you weren't able to score tickets to Coachella or can't afford a pass to the mega $300 plus festivals, then the smaller, lesser known ones may be your best bet. Euphoria Music and Camping Festival just outside of Austin, Texas is one of those options and it has released the lineup for the 2015 edition. Some of the headlining acts who be taking over the festival this April include Pretty Lights, Ghostland Observatory, Adventure Club, Thievery Corporation and STS9. -
Pretty Lights Releases 9 Free, New Songs Through a Fan [LISTEN]
Artists are always looking for new ways to get their music out to their fans. Whether it is a surprise album drop or forcing their way into their phones, artists have always been looking to gain an edge. American electronic DJ/producer Derek Vincent Smith, known professionally as Pretty Lights, has done something new of his own in releasing unreleased demos from his back catalog through a fan he met on jamband cruise Jam Cruise in 2013. He has released nine new tracks for free through the fan Cassie Blochinger, whom he met by the zen pool on the boat.As noted by "This Song Is Sick," the pair came up with the idea to release the music on the boat after Smith gave her the tracks on the boat:"[The fans] should be the ones sharing his music. We're the ones that help expand the knowledge of Pretty Lights and show the world just how we do." -
Colorado's Red Rocks Implements New Noise Rules to Counter Rise of EDM
One of the United States's most iconic outdoor music venues, Red Rocks Amphitheater, in Morrison, Colorado is undergoing another set of rule changes to its regulations for noise levels that emanate from the concerts that take place there. Denver officials outlined new rules that will apply to various levels of sounds of sounds, notably bass levels and late night performance times that have been at the heart of Morrison resident's complaints. -
Holy Ship! Setting Sail Across Mediterranean Soon According To Gary Richards
Hard Events's Holy Ship! has become one dance music's premiere destinations for fans who want to party out at sea with their favorite DJs. Entering its fourth year, the dance cruise just completed its first journey from Miami with Djs like A-Trak, Pretty Lights, Laidback Luke, Flume, Duke Dumont, Rl Grime, Gorgon City and others were brought along for the four-day voyage. 2015 saw the cruise expand to two seafaring expeditions out of Miami, but according to an interview by Revolt with Gary Richards, the founder of Hard Events, which hosts Holy Ship!, the promoter has their sites on another market, Europe, specifically the Mediterranean. -
Eliot Lipp Talks New Album 'Watch The Shadows,' Classical Music, Brooklyn Labels, The Pretty Lights Keepin' It Crew Tour, And More [EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]
Eliot Lipp, a Brooklyn-based DJ/producer who is on the Pretty Lights Music label, dropped his latest album, Watch The Shadows, today (Oct. 14). With more than a decade making electronic music, this latest effort shows Lipp bringing a more "human" element to his sound while trying out new genres and styles. Music Times chatted with Lipp about the process behind making Watch The Shadows, the role classical music played, the influence Brooklyn has had on his evolving sound, and the story behind the Pretty Lights Keeping It Crew Tour, which features Lipp and labelmates Michal Menert, SuperVision, and Paul Basic collaborating on stage together. Pretty Lights will hold its first ever Pay-Per-View concert on Saturday November 30th at 9pm PST. Derek Vincent Smith will be playing with some of the musicians from his acclaimed A Color Map of the Sun album.
