It's worse when two music festivals appealing to the same fan base are going down on the same day. It's the worst when both of those music festivals are going on within 100 miles of each other. Such is the case between the Electric Daisy Carnival New York and the Mysteryland Festival are both going down this Memorial Day weekend. -
Tiësto, Calvin Harris and Steve Aoki Slated to Play MGM Grand's Wet Republic opening month
We've frequently commented on the Hakkasan nightclub's most stacked of residential lineups for 2014, and how it's the envy of electronic dance venues in Las Vegas, and in doing so, we may have failed to give attention to the other clubs held within the MGM Grand complex. The casino resort's Wet Republic is set to reopen during late March after some remodeling during the off-season, and it plans to open the venue with a slew of big name DJ's. -
Calvin Harris, Tiësto, David Guetta among highest paid DJ's of 2013
The increasing profitability of EDM has been a theme throughout the year in both Music Times as well as numerous financial publications. Many businessmen and promoters are looking to make a buck off the trend, but one the producers themselves are definitely cashing in, as Forbes' list of the highest paid DJ's indicates. Calvin Johnson topped the list for 2013, bringing in more than $46 million (a total that topped Jay Z's earnings for the year). -
Waka Flocka Flame announces new album 'Flockaveli Psychotics,' combining hip-hop and EDM, for 2014
Waka Flocka Flame seems to have been inspired by his current touring host, EDM producer Steve Aoki. The rapper is currently supporting Aoki on his "Aokify America" tour, as well as playing alongside other electronic musician Borgore in the supporting slot, which is the probable cause for his declaration that the second chapter in his Flockaveli series will combine EDM and hip-hop music. -
Electric Zoo Cancelled After Two Drug-Related Deaths, Four Overdoses, 31 Drug-Related Arrests and a Report of Sexual Assault
The organizers of Electric Zoo cancelled the last day of the festival after two concertgoers died, another was sexually assaulted and several others were placed in intensive care. Officials believe that the two deaths and many of the illnesses were due to the ingestion of the drug MDMA (ecstasy, molly).
