BBC Radio One likes to rotate its monthly residents every year and the next batch of artists have been chosen to take over the British airwaves in 2015. This upcoming calendar year will feature tastemakers Flying Lotus, Jon Hopkins, Hannah Wants, Skream, Heidi, George Fitzgerald, Solomun and Kaytranada. Kaytranada already broke the news early last week when his management announced that he would be joining the program.
"During my highschool days, I used to listen to my favourite DJs mixes on BBC and now, here I am. Damn. I'm going to play the best music for y'all," Kaytranada said of being selected for the residency.
George Fitzgerald and Heidi will remain from their 2014 residencies, while Steve Angello, Martin Garris, James Blake, Moxie, Jackmaster and Sohn are all leaving the program (via Mixmag).
Hannah Wants, Solomun and Flying Lotus all expressed their joy at the opportunity as well.
Hannah Wants says: "So so happy to be a part of Radio 1's Residency. I'm really excited to be able to share my sound on such a great platform. Thank you BBC Radio 1!"
Solomun, says: "It's a big honour being asked to be part of BBC Radio 1's Residency and I didn't hesitate a second - I can't wait to get started."
Flying Lotus, says: "I still can't believe this is about to happen. It'll be a pleasure to invade the UK airwaves for the months ahead."
The R1 Dance residencies will air every Thursday night, with each artist getting a chance to showcase their tastemaking abilities once a month. Kaytranada will be paired with FlyLo, Skream with Hannah Wants, Heidi with Solomun and George Fitzgerald with Jon Hopkins.
The BBC Radio 1 residencies always bring great music to the forefront and it appears that 2015 will be no different.
