Tomorrowland Squashes Rumors Of India Expansion in 2015

Rumors have swirled around a potential expansion for Tomorrowland expansion to India. It seemed almost a done deal when Goa travel minister came out with comments last October that "The event organizers have approached us and have shown interest to host the event in mid[dle] of January."

However, this was not to be the case. Shortly thereafter, Debby Wilsmen, the chief press officer for ID&T festival was quoted in a Belgian paper Het Laaste Nieuws via DNA India saying "This brief note is to respect and salute the Indian Tomorrowland fans and media, and to clarify that absolutely no decision has been made as to whether the next expansion of Tomorrowland will take place in India or in any other country in the world."

She went on to note that Tomorrowland is always looking to expand worldwide, notably under the guise of expansion hungry Robert Sillerman led SFX, but the festival just made the jump to the United States in 2013 and announced at Tomorrowland in July that the festival would be going to Brazil in 2015. Due to this Wilsman remarks, "in the immediate future the full focus is on the first Brazilian edition, next to the editions in Belgium and USA"

In a new interview with the Banagalore Mirror, Wilsmen echoed her previous sentiment to squash the idea that Tomorrowland would be arriving in India in 2015. When pressed on the issue, she fired back, "Like I've mentioned, that is not true. We organise TomorrowWorld US together with SFX, maybe SFX has plans to do an event, but Tomorrowland is NOT coming to India."

Tomorrowland Brazil sold 180,000 tickets in less than three hours, showing that there is a market for Tomorrowland abroad and even further expansion could be possible for the successful electronic music festival franchise.
