Love & Hip Hop New York's Mendeecees Harris has been grabbing headlines recently after striking a plea deal in a years-old drug trafficking case. Harris' legal troubles first became newsworthy back in 2013 when he was arrested and thrown in jail in a facility in upstate New York, where he sat until love Yandy Smith finally managed to bail him out a year later. The couple has downplayed his legal issues and instead focused on expanding their family while VH1's cameras rolled...so Harris striking a deal that carries a lengthy prison term seemed to come out of nowhere. He did finally release a statement this week...sort of.
In the short VH1 clip Harris is extremely calm in explaining that he can't comment on his legal troubles because they are on-going. He instead goes on to promote his upcoming wedding to Smith. VH1 is planning on filming the live wedding on May 25 and Harris encouraged everyone to focus on that instead. It's really interesting how Harris comes across on reality television because he generally seems like one of the best and most grounded men on L&HHNY. You would never have pegged him for being a kingpin who was running drugs between NYC and Rochester from 2005-'12.
Smith does a great job of putting her family first but do you think that she's going to hold things together for a minimum of five years while her man is locked up? Isn't she likely to eventually become resentful of the whole situation? While these two are making their big splashy wedding sound like the most amazing thing ever, the reality is that their everyday life together is going to abruptly end when Harris is sentenced in August. Will they really stick together? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
