There has been a major shakeup in Frank Ocean's camp. According to new sources, the "Thinkin Bout You" singer has fired his management and PR team ahead of the release of his new album.
According to a report at Buzzfeed, Ocean separated himself from his longtime managers Christian and Kelly Clancy this spring and has recently left PR firm Life or Death PR for celebrity agency ID PR, whose clients include the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Alicia Keys and Paul Simon.
A new manager has not been officially named as of yet.
It's of note that both Ocean's former managers and PR firm work with the hip-hop collective Odd Future, which helped initially launch Ocean to fame in 2010. The Clancys and Life or Death PR still represent Odd Future and the group's frontman Tyler, The Creator.
Neither the Clancys, Life or Death PR or Ocean have made public comments about the recent changing of hands.
Other than a critically-acclaimed set at Bonnaroo, Ocean has been notably quiet in recent months, working on his follow-up to his stunning breakthrough album channel ORANGE, which was released in July 2012. The new album, about which details are scarce, is expected to be released before the end of 2014.
However, those close to Ocean who have heard the album are singing its praises. "Everyone should be excited about this new album - that s**t is fire," said music video director Nabil Elderkin (who worked with Ocean on "Pyramids" from channel ORANGE).
