David Andersson, popularly known for being the guitarist of the hit Swedish death metal band Soilwork, has passed away at the age of 47; what was his cause of death?

The group confirmed the tragic news on their social media accounts by releasing a statement to confirm his death as well as pay tribute to him as their bandmate.

They began the post by saying the guitarist was "one of a kind and brilliant man" and he worked for them for more than a decade, which impacted the band's "music journey."

Although the group did not specifically state that he took his own life, they hinted at his cause of death, writing "Sadly, alcohol and mental illness took you away from us." (via Loudwire)

Soilwork continued, saying they would miss their friend and would continue the musical legacy that he was a part of. The band also reached out to his family by sending their deepest condolences.

To conclude the post, they expressed gratitude to the musician for the "good laughs." They also encourage fans to respect the privacy of his family at this time of mourning.

The statement was signed by Soilwork's current members: Björn Strid, Sylvain Coudret, Rasmus Ehrnborn, Sven Karlsson, and Bastian Thusgaard.

How Did Soilwork Get Famous?

The band first got together in 1995, their initial name was Inferior Breed, but they later changed into Soilwork the following week when they switched to making more melodic music.

Upon recording the demo for their song "In Dreams We Fall Into the Eternal Lake," their former bassist Carl-Gustav Döös left the band, leading Peter Wichers to take charge of the instrument.

They later met Michael Amott, another musician who's a part of Arch Enemy. Upon hearing the demo, they struck a deal with Listenable Records, a move that changed their careers forever.

Soilwork amassed more fame during the early to mid-2000s after recording their third studio album "A Predator's Portrait."

They record became so popular that it sealed them as one of the popularly known melodic death metal bands at the time.

Amid the era of their third album, they also performed at the Wacken Open Air and later toured along with Nevermore and Annihilator.

Their 12th full-length album titled "Övergivenheten" was released last month.
