Songs Named For America's Biggest Cities; Starring Frank Sinatra, Neil Young and Maybe A$AP Rocky
Music Times checked out the most recent census data to confirm what the nine largest cities in the United States are and then went out in search of songs titled after that city. This means ONLY the town names, with no extra words ("New York" applies..."Let's Get Rid of New York" by The Randoms does not, for example). -

The overall sales numbers remained low on the Digital Downloads chart for a second week even though competition for the top spot is heating up again. -
Lecrae Takes First No. 1 in Week Full of New Albums; from Jhene Aiko, Ryan Adams, Robert Plant and More
There aren't as many huge debuts as last week but this week does mark the most new albums to crack into the Top 10 yet during 2014 as seven new records make the list this week. Yes, that does mean that the Frozen soundtrack has finally left the Top 10 for the first time this year. Big things are happening. -
Run The Jewels and El-P Vow to Make Good on 'Meow The Jewels' Album if Kickstarter Campaign Comes Through
Run The Jewels is noted for many things, one of which isn't taking the world too seriously. Thus it was less than surprising when the duo unrolled its mercy packages for the new Run The Jewels 2 album, which featured some absurd offers available for absurd amounts of money, including a rendition of the album featuring nothing but cat noise samples titled Meow The Jewels, which would involve El-P remixing the entire album and working in a few bonus clips of your cat mewing. Something he didn't think about: A group of fans crowdsourcing funds to make the project happen. -

Kanye West and Crowd Banter Gone Bad: Featuring Axl Rose, A$AP Rocky and...Barbara Streisand?
Most fan interaction from stage is a good thing...outside of Kanye West's recent complaint about handicapped concertgoers. Bands prostrate themselves before their fans ("You're the best crowd we've ever seen! Really!") and toss out guitar picks and other innocent and grateful displays. But occasionally performers are less than pleased with those in the audience. -
Orchestras Plus Heavy Metal: Celebrating Symphonic Performances with Deep Purple, Metallica, Scorpions and More
Deep Purple somewhat summarized what heavy metal was with its 1969 album 'Concerto for Group and Orchestra,' not in music but in attitude. All of the costumes, all of the hair products, all of the huge guitar solos...go big or go home. Sometimes that meant playing with a whole dang orchestra, even if your lyrics about women and booze don't make sense with it. -
Urban Outfitters Sells Terrible, Blood-Stained Kent State Sweatshirt; Basis for 'Ohio' for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
Maybe you're not in touch with American history or maybe you figured Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young just randomly named its 1970 hit "Ohio" randomly. Maybe you're a tasteless designer/promoter for the Urban Outfitters company and decided that this "vintage" sweatshirt from Kent State University was an okay thing to sell. -
Rammstein Guitarist Richard Kruspe Confirms Band 'Taking Time Off,' Doesn't Clarify What That Means
Sure, Rammstein hasn't released an album since 2009's Liebe ist für alle da but that doesn't mean the band is actually on hiatus, right? The German rock icons have certainly toured consistently in the time since. However it's now been more than a year since the band's last gig, the Wacken Open Air festival in August 2013, and we've started wondering. Guitarist Richard Kruspe gave a somewhat worrisome, somewhat ambiguous interview with Metal Hammer that suggests the band is taking some time off. -
Phones 4U Clarifies Manchester Arena Concerts Won't Be Affected by Company Troubles
Manchester (England) is home to perhaps the worst-named arena on the planet: the Phones 4U Arena. As you can probably guess, the building is named after a company supplying mobile phone service to the UK. Our condescension aside, the company is struggling to stay afloat after some problematic business issues and now folks in the Manchester area are concerned that the arena bearing the company's name will close, forcing cancellations of several hot concerts later this year. -

Species Named after Famous Musicians: Mick Jagger, Beyoncé, Bono, Jim Morrison and Many More
Mick Jagger had the honor (or something like it), as Music Times reporter Carolyn Menyes wrote earlier this week, of having an extinct species of pig named after him. The news itself isn't that shocking: scientists are naming stuff after musicians all the time. We've narrowed down a majority of the organisms and their respective titles into five categories. -

CBS Sports and NFL Cancel Rihanna/Jay Z Segment as Desperate Attempt to Make You Forget Ray Rice
Those up to date with music news may have noticed something slightly off about the thursday Night Football game between the Piitsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens: A much-hyped pre-game musical number was not broadcast as promised. CBS had previously announced it would open all of the Thursday night games with a recording of Jay Z and Rihanna singing "Run This Town," a great choice if we say so ourselves (Kanye's verse would not be part of the package). The NFL and network opted to cancel that segment due to the current furor regarding Ray Rice and his domestic abuse video. -
