  • Bruce Springsteen's new album 'High Hopes' released on Amazon by surprise

It looks like Beyoncé's surprise album release stunt has already started to inspire other big names in the music industry to surprise their fans. • Britney Spears debuts Las Vegas revue

Britney Spears debuted her Las Vegas residency revue on Friday night at the AXIS Theater within the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. Some have suggested that between the pop star's taking to Vegas, and the poor sales of her last album Britney Jean, that perhaps the vocalist is heading towards washed up. A star-studded audience indicated that there's still plenty of interest in Spears' career: Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, Adam Lambert and Sia were all in attendance.
  • 'The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963' Reaches Billboard 200 despite $40 price tag

Society always celebrates the records that top the Billboard 200 album chart. Back of The Billboards is a Music Times weekly segment that looks at the opposite end: the new record that finished closest to the back of the Billboard 200 for the previous week. We hope to give a fighting chance to the bands you haven't heard of.
  • Tiësto, Zedd and Bassnectar to headline Ultra Music Experience

Considering the title of Miami's Ultra Music Festival, it's understandable that other music gatherings might struggle to live up. However, the Ultra Music Experience on San Padre Island, TX, will try to serve as a healthy warm-up for the big event that takes place two weeks later. The event, being held for the fourth year at Schitterbahn Beach Waterpark, will occur between March 13-15.
  • Rap Genius gets punished by Google for link scheme

RapGenius.com has become a force to be reckoned with within the hip-hop community on the internet, thanks to its huge collection of rap lyrics and tools that allow you to make awesome graphs of hip-hop analytics. That rising stardom may have hit a significant speed bump when a journalist pointed out that the site was using some sketchy methodology to draw hits to its website.
  • Iron Maiden's tours use analytics to make cash off of illegal downloading

Heavy metal is not a genre that's been very PR-friendly in terms of the battle against illegally downloaded music. Metallica (yeah, we know the technical term is 'thrash') is the most notorious of all performers for its lawsuit against Napster. Iron Maiden however has found a way to turn a profit off of all that stolen music.
  • Michael Buble dominates Christmas Spotify Streams, Wham! tops in U.K.

There hasn't been any official numbers from Spotify yet as to who was the most streamed artist on the service for Christmas Day, but we can make a guess based on last week's numbers. Michael Buble was the man to beat, as the crooner took nine of the Top 10 spots for most-streamed Christmas songs during the week of December 12-19. You can argue that it was your mother who was handling all the streaming at your house, but we know that isn't true.
  • 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy reveals original finale with Cory Monteith

There was never any doubt that Glee's sixth and final season would require a dramatic change of plans following the death of series' star Cory Monteith (who played the role of Finn on the show). Series creator and writer Ryan Murphy revealed how he originally envisioned the series ending as part of the year-end issue of Entertainment Weekly. Murphy has claimed during other interviews that he "always knew how it would end," but surprised fans and readers when he declared during his EW piece that Finn was "both the beginning and the end of Glee."

  • MySpace running huge digital exhibit on Pharrell Williams' discography

Pharrell Williams is having a big year, as we've noted before. Aside from his production work, his Oscar nomination, and singing the hooks for two of the year's most downloaded songs ("Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke and "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk), MySpace is now running a huge digital exhibit on the producer/performer's career.
  • Gnarls Barkley Reuniting in 2014 says Cee Lo Green

For all the reunion talk going on about 2014, a new name entered into the fray after a brush with a paparazzo on Monday. Cee Lo Green, approached by a crack-reporter at Los Angeles International, said that Gnarls Barkley, his duo with producer Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton will be working on something during 2014. To quote him directly, Barkley will reunite "like, next year."
  • Luke Bryan and Eric Church headlining Tortuga Music Festival in Fort Lauderdale

Country music tends to lyrically place itself into the geography of the South or the heartlands. It's no secret that country musicians enjoy the beach just as much as the rest of us however. Thus the lineup for the second Rock The Oceans Tortuga Music Festival in Ft. Lauderdale, FL is dominated by country performers. Two of the largest male names in the genre, Luke Bryan and Eric Church will serve as headliners.
  • Stevie Wonder Plays 'Songs in The Key of Life' Live At Nokia Theater

Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key of Life doesn't make for an easy live recreation. For one, there's the dense percussive and orchestral instrumentals for much of the album. For two, there's 21 songs (when you take the bonus 7" that would be released later). The pianist and R&B star was convinced that he could pull it off for his annual House Full of Toys benefit event, and he pulled out all the stops for the show on Saturday night at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
  • Pandora loses court order against BMI, could ASCAP challenge previous ruling?

Things were looking good for internet radio station Pandora back in September, when it won a monumental victory over performing rights organization ASCAP (American Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers). However, when they brought more-or-less the same suit against P.R.O. BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.), a judge ruled the opposite.
