At the time, it appeared as though there was a faint possibility that Chairman and CEO Robert Sillerman would take the company at a revised share price in line with current market conditions. According to a statement, Sillerman "reaffirmed his intent" to take the company private with a revised offer that reflects where the stock is currently being traded.
  • The Chainsmokers Announce Friend Zone Tour Dates With Special Guests

    Selfie extraordinaires, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, better known as The Chainsmokers, have announced an extensive fall tour across North America. The 30-date tour will kick off in Nashville at Marathon Music Works on Oct. 23 and end on Dec. 5 at their Las Vegas residency at Hakkasan nightclub. The duo will be supported by a whole host of different DJs along the way including DallasK, Shaun Frank, SNBRN, Steve James, Louis The Child, Ansolo and Matoma.

    Pharrell has been one of the most ardent early adopters of Apple Music and over the weekend he used his OTHERtone radio show on Beats 1 as a platform to premiere some unreleased N.E.R.D. music. Pharrell rinsed out the track "Locked Away," which has been floating around on the internet since 2002, but the new premiere could indicate that new music from the group is on the horizon.

    Just as reports of SoundCloud's impending demise started to grow louder, it appears they maligned streaming and discovery service may have taken a major step towards creating a sustainable business model. According to a new report in Music Business Worldwide, SoundCloud is close to agreeing on a new licensing deal with Universal Music Group that could potentially net UMG significant equity in SoundCloud.

    In the past few weeks, things have started to look bleak for Robert F.X. Sillerman in his big to try and take dance music conglomerate SFX Entertainment private. He had been struggling to find the financing from investors to begin an aggressive share buyback plan at the agreed price in May of $5.25 per share. Now that the company's share are valued at $1.39, that initial offer has become untenable and SFX is now exploring other options.

    One enterprising Brazilian DJ is going old-school in an attempt to try and get Madonna's attention to try and sign his remix on as an official rework of her Rebel Heart song "Devil Pray." 18-year-old (he makes sure to note that) Nick Deboni ran an ad in the Los Angeles Times Tuesday with the massive hashtag #ApproveMadonna to try and draw her attention toward his remix.

    Prime Social Group's big Halloween EDM event Haunted Fest has announced the initial lineup for those who will headline its original Columbus, Ohio concert on Oct. 30, which will include the likes of Martin Garrix (making his first appearance in the state), Cash Cash, SNAILS and NGHTMRE. The promotion company has also announced it will expand to two new locations in 2015 - Texas and Colorado.
  • SFX Stocks Slump on Weak Q2 Earnings Report, Despite Revenue Growth

    SFX Entertainment's stock has tumbled once more after reporting its Q2 earnings to investors. Despite having strong revenue growth, primarily from the busy summer festival season, the company reported weak earnings and a net loss of $48 million. SFX stock took a spill on Monday (Aug. 10), falling 22 percent to an all-time low of $2.36 before the second quarter earnings were released after the end of day trading.

  • Columbia House Files Bankruptcy as CDs No Longer Profitable

    Columbia House, a relic of the era when physical records and movies were king, has filed for bankruptcy after nearly two decades of declining revenue. The mail-order music and video retailer once boasted an annual profit of $1.4 billion at its peak in 1996 but in 2014 only tallied $17 million in revenue. According to the bankruptcy filings obtained by the Wall Street Journal, Filmed Entertainment Inc., the parent company for Columbia House cited the constantly evolving digital and online landscape and eroding physical CD sales.
