Billboard released its highest-earning tours list nearly a month ago, but the North American numbers might be more relevant to Music Times' American readers. Taylor Swift took the top spot in her home continent, followed by the worldwide no. 1, Jon Bon Jovi. -
Brit Awards announce 2014 nominees including One Direction, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry [Full List]
Awards Season has officially begun. The Grammys are just weeks away, and now the nominees for the 2014 Brit Awards have been announces. At the top of the list are two British acts, Disclosure (collaborator Sam Smith just won BBC's Sound of 2014) and Bastille, who have four nominations each. Despite not being up for any Grammy nominations (likely due to not being eligible this year), One Direction has been nominated as well for British Single and British Group. -

Looking at a performer's sales is one way to judge who's the biggest name in music. Another way is to check out who's been illegally downloaded the most. Data analysts Musicmetric have looked into the latter and concluded that Bruno Mars and Rihanna are the most tormented performers in the world. Where that places them among the most popular is up to you. -
Nicole Oran's 2013 Playlist: Jay Z, Daft Punk and Savages
Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are necessarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again. -
Disclosure, Chvrches, other alternative acts top Hype Machine's 'Most Blogged' list
If you roll your eyes at the term "blogosphere," at least acknowledge the truth the music world on the internet is vastly different from real-life music. The most telling example is Hype Machine's yearly 'Music Blog Zeitgeist,' which counts down the Top 50 performers based on how often they're mentioned in over 820 prominent music blogs. Hint: Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Eminem, Jay Z and Katy Perry didn't make the list. -
Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction and more receive Platinum record and single certifications from RIAA
Some of music's biggest acts are getting an early Christmas gift of gold and platinum. Today (Dec. 11), the RIAA released its list of songs and albums that have gone gold or platinum over the last two months, and the long list features both familiar names and some unexpected gems.
