Last night Drake and Kanye West hit a Yeezus afterparty together, where they rapped to each other's songs. West donning a Toronto hockey jersey, swung from the ceiling at one point as "Blood on the Leaves" played. All of this was well documented on social media thanks to the dozens of people holding up their iPhones. -
President Obama likes Kanye West's music despite having criticized him in the past
In a recent interview with People (via Consequence of Sound), President Obama was asked if he'd rather "hang out" with the Duck Dynasty cast or Kimye, following the recent Duck Dynasty drama. Obama apparently chose the Duck Dynasty crew but told People, "Kanye's music is outstanding though. I've got a lot of his stuff on my iPad. If it was a concert, then I might not mind listening to him." -

Ryan Book's Playlist of 2013: Lorde, Kanye, and Kvelertak
Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are neccesarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again -
Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes drop free mixtape, 'The Abstract and the Dragon' [LISTEN]
Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip have teamed up to release a free mixtape. According to Rolling Stone, the new release The Abstract and the Dragon "brings together collaborative tracks recorded throughout the two decades of friendship between the two rappers." -
Kanye West can't believe he has only two Grammy nominations this year
Kanye West's Yeezus received two Grammy nominations this year. It is up for Best Rap Album, competing with Drake, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and its track "New Slaves" is up for Best Rap Song. But is this enough of a nod for an album that has topped most Best of 2013 lists? West doesn't think so. -
Kanye West opens up on Juan Epstein podcast about his life starting out as a producer and his current celebrity lifestyle
Kanye West has a lot going on in his life right now with a new baby, an upcoming wedding and all of the other things that come with being a hip hop mogul who has a lot of opinions. He always has a lot of projects brewing at any given time, not always related to music (i.e. his cameo in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues out Dec. 18). But on Juan Epstein's podcast, hosted by Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds, the artist speaks about his roots in rap. -
NME's Best Albums List invoke Arctic Monkeys, Queens of The Stone Age and (surprise!) Kanye West
We've already spread the word on what two of the biggest names in music media, Rolling Stone and SPIN, have been listening to during 2013. But what about our friends across the pond? NME has joined in the end of the year fun, releasing its own list of the Top 50 albums of the year. The bad news is that you have to buy the issue to get the full list (looks like those Brits are trying to generate a profit, something the rest of us music media types have given up on), but they were kind enough to share their Top 3 to the general public. -
Rolling Stone releases its own Top 50 Albums of The Year list...now Vampire Weekend challenges Kanye West
It just must be the time of the year for announcing one's albums of the year, as Rolling Stone has also released its list of the best 50 for 2013 (Music Times will publish its list December 21). SPIN also published its own list of best records this week, as we reported yesterday. Considering the number of albums released during the year, there was a decent amount shared, relatively, within the Top 5 of both publications. -
SPIN releases annual list of best albums; Kanye West, Chance The Rapper, and Vampire Weekend vie for top spot
SPIN Magazine, one of our most trusted sources for music across many genres, has released its annual list of the best 50 albums of the year. Yes, it's a bit early (not going to give Britney Spears a fair shot guys?), but we're sure they're just trying to beat the holiday rush (you'll be able to check out Music Times' albums of the year list on December 23, and our staffers' respective playlists of the year on December 16). The top album is something you've definitely heard of, but may still come as a surprise. -
Kanye West explains why G.O.O.D. Music artists aren't on his Yeezus tour
It has been a prolific year for G.O.O.D. Music with the release of Kanye West's Yeezus, Pusha T's My Name is My Name, and 2 Chainz's B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time. But as MTVNews points out, West chose not to bring any of his G.O.O.D. Music artists with him on his Yeezus tour. -
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian approve of James Franco and Seth Rogen's 'Bound 2' spoof, dubbed 'Bound 3'
You guys, it's okay. Kanye West didn't flip out over the Seth Rogen/James Franco shot-for-shot parody of his "Bound 2" video, dubbed "Bound 3." In fact, he thought it was hilarious. Phew.
