  • Drake Wins Top Views on Lyric Website RapGenius.com in 2014

This year, "RapGenius," one of the largest archives of hip-hop lyrics on the Web, compiled a list of statistics reviewing 2014 in terms of which artists and songs saw the most views. Drake found himself at the No. 1 artist slot for 2014 with the most views for an individual artist.Last year, saw a lot of new music, which unfortunately did not amount to much in terms of hitting the top seller's list. In fact, this year, hip-hop was excluded from the top 10 best-selling album list, as well as seeing a decline of 11 percent in sales overall from 2013.As "RapGenius" pointed out, looking up an artist's lyrics helps to separate the casual listeners from the loyal fans. Last year, singles saw more attention on the Web than albums as a whole on the lyric archive site, which reflects the trend that is becoming more apparent, with fans eager for singles and material quicker than it takes to put out a full album or EP.As reported, Bobby Shmurda's single "Hot N---a" took the No. 1 spot for the most-viewed lyrics for one single, with more than 3 million page views for 2014 and No. 3 overall in views, behind Beyoncé and Jay-Z's "Drunk in Love" and Eminem's "Rap God."
  • Google Adds Lyrics to Its Search

Google is once again looking to change the way we search. The Silicon Valley giant has just revealed its new lyric searching system that allows users to search for song lyrics, and the words will come up as a native Google result. The result pulls from Google Play's growing library of music. A link to the lyrics can also be found under an official YouTube link. One source told "Billboard" how Google was able to get this done, saying, "They're creating the database themselves. They've done direct licensing deals with the major publishers to enable the service, and they're doing it internally at the moment. The data isn't crowd-sourced; there's a team of people working to create the database."This is a huge blow to sites like AZLyrics and Metrolyrics, which have benefited tremendously from the status quo.

  • Taylor Swift Claims That 'Boys Only Want Love if It's Torture'

Taylor Swift has been everywhere promoting "1989," and while every track on the album is not a storyline ripped from her failed relationships, it seems she is still being asked about her thoughts on love every time she stops for an interview. While Swift has said repeatedly that she is — maybe wisely — taking a breather from looking for Mr. Right and focusing on the friends and family who are already worthy of her love, that does not mean she has not thought long and hard about the idea of romance. In fact, she thinks "boys only want love if it's torture."
