Modest Mouse launched their official Instagram page today by posting an image of a vinyl record labeled "Side A: 'Lampshades on Fire'." This is sparked rumors of new material from the group, which would be their first new music since 2009's No One's First and You're Next. Countless artists have recorded cover albums over the years, from Rod Stewart to Yo La Tengo to Rage Against the Machine, but those albums typically feature an assortment of songs by many different artists. These seven artists, however, recorded cover albums featuring songs by just one artist. -
7 Indie Bands Who Had Incredible Major Label Debuts: Green Day, Modest Mouse and More
A major label deal may seem like a dream come true for any musician, but for many independently minded artists, major labels have often suppressed their true creative voices, resulting in sub-par work. No Thanks, U2: 8 Artists We'd Actually Like Free Surprise Albums From: OutKast, Kanye West, And More
Earlier this week, U2 unexpectedly released their new album Songs of Innocence for free on iTunes, making it the largest album release ever. Though this method of putting a new album into everyone's iTunes library is pretty cool and groundbreaking (and not "invasive," stop whining), there are plenty of other bands we would have rather gotten a free surprise album from than U2, who aren't exactly at the top of their game musically. Here are eight artists we would have rather gotten a free surprise album from. -

Modest Mouse hasn't released a new studio album since 2007's We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, but they'll be filling up this void with some vinyl reissues of their '90s classics. Pitchfork reports that Glacial Pace and Fat Possum Records will be reissuing Modest Mouse's first two full-length albums, 1996's This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, and 1997's The Lonesome Crowded West, on Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, respectively. -
9 Albums That Open With Instrumentals: Simon & Garfunkel, Modest Mouse And More
Last week I wrote about albums that end on instrumental tracks, which I described as sort of epilogues to the album's narrative structure. If ending an album on an instrumental is an epilogue, opening with one must be a prologue, a way to ease the listener in. Here are nine albums that open with instrumental tracks. -

12 Classic Albums Produced By Musicians Outside The Band: Weezer, Beck, And More
Today marked the tragic passing of Ramones drummer Tommy Ramone, and along with being a founding member of one of the most influential bands in history, another one of his crowning achievements was his production of the Replacements' classic 1985 album Tim. Here are some other classic albums that were produced by musicians outside of the band. -
10 Band Names Taken From Literature: Steely Dan, The Doors, And More
If there's one surefire way to add a sense of importance and artistic integrity to your band, it's to name your band after something you read in a book. Here are ten bands who took their names from literary works. -
