  • Ice Cube Announces N.W.A. Reunion at BET Experience Concert in L.A.

Ice Cube announced the biggest hip-hop news of the summer as N.W.A. will apparently reunite in some form for the BET Experience show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on June 27. • The Charts and The Gulf War: Mariah Carey, MC Hammer and Aerosmith

Memorial Day 2015 bears a special significance for two reasons: More importantly, it's the first time in 14 years that the holiday has been celebrated with no American troops involved in a "major ground war," and it's also the 25th anniversary of the first invasion of Iraq during the Gulf War. We at Music Times can do little but throw out our thanks to those who have served and those who currently serve in the United States military, but we wanted to check out what the Billboard charts looked like on both dates, August 2, 1991 and October 7, 2001, the dates when Americans last became embroiled in foreign combat.
  • The FBI and Musicians: John Lennon, N.W.A., NIN and More Acts with Reports

John Lennon appeared on The Dick Cavett Show on this date more than forty years ago and made a bold prediction: The FBI were keeping a close eye on him. This might sound like a typical conspiracy theory of the early '70s, except that it was totally true...either an indication that the FBI was predictable or it just wasn't very good at the secrecy thing. Lennon had all of the makings for a good FBI target: He had a record with drugs, he was vocally against the Vietnam War, and his political leanings were just right of being a godless communist. He wasn't the first, nor would he be the last, to gather attention from the Bureau. Here are another lot of otherwise harmless musicians that would get lengthy files in Washington D.C., from Elvis Presley to N.W.A.
  • Bryan Price: Lil Jon, Eminem, Dr. Dre and 5 Other Rappers Try to Outcurse Cincinnati Reds Manager

The rant was around 5:30 long, which comes out to about 14 f*cks a minute. Compare that with 50 Cent's early track "F*ck You," which comes in at about 14.25 f*cks a minute. Here's how Price's rant compares to the most profane hip-hop songs of all time, from Eminem to Dr. Dre and Lil Jon.

  • 5 Surprising Hip-Hop Ghostwriters: Will Smith, Dr. Dre and Jim Jones Had Curious Helpers with These Hits

The hot news in hip-hop today is the rumor that Compton rapper Skeme may have ghostwritten songs for Iggy Azalea, including "Fancy," the no. 4 song of 2014. This news probably surprises no one, despite denials from the performer herself and mentor T.I. that anyone else had a hand in crafting her hits. And if anyone is that shocked or appalled by the news...perhaps they should check out the history of hip-hop. You'll be surprised at how many songs are actually written by the least likely of performers. Here are just a few examples.
