• Will Smith, Jay Z Executive Team Up To Produce Emmett Till HBO Miniseries

Will Smith and Tidal owner Jay-Z have decided to collaborate once more for an HBO miniseries documenting the life and story surrounded Emmett Till, a teenager who died in 1955, sparking the civil rights movement. Writers are being sought out for the un-titled project expected to span six hours.
  • 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' Meets 'Grand Theft Auto V' in Clever Video

Will Smith doesn't have to cuss in his rap to sell records, so it doesn't seem obvious to correlate his hit TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with Grand Theft Auto. Yet YouTube user Merfish has recreated the entire opening sequence of the sitcom using the newest chapter of the controversial video game series.
  • You Won't Listen to New Music After You Turn 33, According to Study

This obviously doesn't apply to Music Times readers, but a new study has estimated that the average music listener stops seeking out new music past the age of 33. Ajay Kalia, representing the website Skynet & Ebert, tapped into the data available via Spotify and its Echo Nest analytics branch to check out what listeners of various ages were streaming...and it seems like people in their late-30s and beyond weren't exactly tuning into Rae Sremmurd.
  • 8 Oasis No. 1 UK Hits: 'Don't Look Back In Anger,' 'The Hindu Times,' 'Lyla' and More

Oasis, the most essentially-British band of the last 30 years (by both their own reckoning and ours), finally topped the charts in the Gallagher brothers' beloved UK 20 years ago today, with the single "Some Might Say," the first song off of the band's beloved album (What's The Story) Morning Glory? The band ended up topping the UK singles charts seven more times throughout its career (and only getting as high as no. 8 on the U.S. charts). Here are those no. 1 singles...be prepared for a few surprises (in terms of what didn't make it, if anything).
  • 5 Surprising Hip-Hop Ghostwriters: Will Smith, Dr. Dre and Jim Jones Had Curious Helpers with These Hits

The hot news in hip-hop today is the rumor that Compton rapper Skeme may have ghostwritten songs for Iggy Azalea, including "Fancy," the no. 4 song of 2014. This news probably surprises no one, despite denials from the performer herself and mentor T.I. that anyone else had a hand in crafting her hits. And if anyone is that shocked or appalled by the news...perhaps they should check out the history of hip-hop. You'll be surprised at how many songs are actually written by the least likely of performers. Here are just a few examples.
  • Caller Trolls C-SPAN With 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' Theme Song [WATCH]

C-SPAN is not known as riveting television for the vast majority of the populous. Your average consumer does not turn on C-SPAN for some post-dinner TV, but that does not mean there cannot be some entertaining moments from time to time. On Tuesday morning, March 17, the host of the 'Washington Journal' took a call from an individual in California whom he believed was going to discuss the potential nuclear deal with Iran, but his response was a little fresh. The man, who went by the name 'Jack Strickland' clarified that he was calling from Bel-Air, California, and proceeded to start singing in spoken word the words to the theme song from the 1990s sitcom classic 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.'
  • 6 Death Metal Vocal Dubs on YouTube: Spongebob, Ernie & Bert, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Join Mary Poppins

The viral video of the moment features Mary Poppins and Bert, singing and dancing among an animated cast as they would during the original film...except death-growling bloody murder rather than singing the actual lyrics to "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase "something quite atrocious." This isn't the first death-metal-dub video we've seen, but we expect to see plenty more due to the popularity of this Mary Poppins spoof. Here's a brief ranking of six flicks on YouTube that feature unusually brutal vocals and blastbeats dubbed over otherwise innocuous material.
