• BBMAs 2015: Van Halen Delivers Rowdy Performance of 'Panama'

    After the world premiere of Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" video featuring the two new verses from Kendrick Lamar, the "Blank Space" singer introduced "one of the greatest rock bands in the world, Van Halen." The legendary rock group with David Lee Roth in tow launched into a rowdy rendition of their classic track, "Panama." The Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) are generally all about chart-topping artists like Wiz Khalifa and Kanye West, but they decided to open up the show with an act who once graced the top of charts decades ago, but remain a band with relevance today.

    Deadmau5, real name Joel Zimmerman, is known for his banter on social media. Whether it is putting other artists on blast or having friendly conversations with his fans, the "Strobe" producer can be reached relatively easily on Twitter. In the past, Zimmerman has also used social media to find promising new talent. Recently, he reached out to Monstercat Records signee Grabbitz about a vocal edit that the Buffalo, New York native made for deadmau5's 'while 1<2' track, "Silent Picture." The collaboration started soon after and deadmau5 has previewed what the pair have been working on over the past few weeks.

    The hip-hop community is mourning the death of one of its one today after rapper Chinx Drugz, real name Lionel Pickens, 31, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Queens early Sunday, according to police. Pickens was struck multiple times while his passenger was struck twice in the Porsche Chinx was driving at around 4 a.m. At least seven bullets pierced the front and driver-side windows according to reports. News has spread quickly today of the passing of the rapper signed to French Montana's Coke Boys imprint and support has poured from artists like Wiz Khalifa, Lil Durk, Meek Mill and Diddy.

    Most music fans are familiar with the major music festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury and Lollapalooza that showcase the biggest bands in the world. However, there are plenty of smaller local festival that showcase mid-level, up-and-coming and local acts that will be the next wave of headliners at those major, big-ticket festivals. New York City has countless music events happening every weekend, notably during the summer, and in three weeks, Northside Festival will be taking over Brooklyn with a combination of speakers, films and music. The festival just announced the majority of the artists who will be performing this year including Best Coast, Run The Jewels, Zola Jesus and Vince Staples.
  • Kendrick Lamar, Bilal Perform New Song 'Money Over Love'

    Kendrick Lamar has been living large since the release of his critically acclaimed album, 'To Pimp A Butterfly.' Despite not going on a major tour as of yet, he has still been able to keep the album relevant in the frenetic 24-hour news cycle. On Friday night at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles, K.Dot. performed a private show at the Linear Labs Launch party with a full backing band, Bilal and Adrian Younge. The "King Kunta" rapper used the opportunity to show off some new music. He performed a new song with TPAB collaborator Bilal, who was on hand that night, titled "Money Over Love." There aren't many details about the collab, but from what we can hear, it has the same funky sound found on "Institutionalized" with a similar social consciousness found in their original collab.

    It's been a long time since the late 2000s when Soulja Boy was putting out hit records like "Crank That (Soulja Boy)," Turn My Swag On" and "Kiss Me Through the Phone." Since the release of his third studio album, 'The DeAndre Way' in 2010, Soulja has been dropping a steady flow of mixtapes and has expanded his business and musical interests into a little EDM and fashion. However, nothing has really stuck. Earlier this year, he released his fourth studio album, 'Loyalty,' on Universal to mixed reviews and now has another piece of work to show in 2015. The "Hurricane" rapper just released his new project, 'Swag The Mixtape,' which has features from the likes of Migos, Chief Keef, Calico Jonez, Johnny Cinco and more.
